Question: after you racked all that stuff, how long did you sit there in your Aeron chair just looking at it?

After I racked it all.....the first word that came out of my mouth, mixed with strings of saliva dripping from my trembling lips was...'Cooooool"

Then, I thought to myself....'Hey? Where is the "Go"..button'..

Then, I turned to the manuals and thought "oh...lord..what have I done"...

And yes, I bought it all, except for the 'first to go helicon' piece' at top...from MA. I got a Royer 122 Mic as well at the same time. The only thing I didnt get, was a T Shirt....Hummmph...

MA was Great to deal with, and I got allllllll the ideas from you guyyzz...*s*..

I havn't really had a great deal of time with it all...but...Initial thoughts are...'love it all'....The Stc-8 is obviously the least colored of anything, but clamps down on anything wanting to peak the Hedd, and I will be using that obviously for mixdown.

The Trakkers, Ive used on vocals through the GR Mic pre. Ohh lala....

But the one piece I absolutely Love in this is the Drawmer. DI with a les paul pushing it...wow....Acoustics....wow....To me, it's a whole other world .

The Distressors...Long live Rockn'Roll.

I've barely scratched the surface and while it was a whole lot of money, its a whole lot of fun, and unlike a Harley I could have bought instead, I wont crash this into the back of a car because I was daydreaming about Gear. Well, that and I don't ride Bikes anyway.

Me Likey!!!

oh..btw...any reason I should not rack all this gear more closely together? Im concerned about 'heating' issues. Crane songs run hot, but the sides and backs are open on this rack. I need the space, I have a few more things coming.

Thnx.

What a great rig! I'm sure the Les Paul -> Drawmer sounds wicked. Are you a fan of DI'd electric guitars like I am? I almost can't use amps anymore, haha. I find that I like smaller ones though, mic'd extremely close, and in a different room so I'm still getting the sound out of the monitors and not from the amp. Color me weird =P

I made a similar plunge about 2 years ago when I ordered a Crane Song Spider from Mercenary and my friend ordered a couple RNP's. I think my next "company" plunge is going to have to be with Innertube Audio. I'm kicking myself for selling my Squeeze Box, but figure that a dual one would be better anyway if I can get the scratch together. I'm also very interested in the Mag Mic as I really need a top shelf vocal mic that out performs most everything out there.

I wasnt a fan of DI, except for acoustic through the avalon, or sometimes a pod. Now with the Royer, Im still after mics on a tube amp etc. However, I do agree with putting the amp outside of the initial vincinity, but what I think is clever is to mic the amp, and also use a DI box to carry a second dry signal back to recorder, and then one can mix those, or, take that dry recorded guitar, and push it back out through the DI box again, straight into another amp and record that with a killer mic setup. That way, if you dont like the sound you recorded off the initial amp, you can always take a second amp and play the dry recorded guitar signal through it and record that.

That or you can use some plug ins, but I've never liked that much to color or create a guitar sound..Ie ampfarm, etc.

I do use a vetta direct in, or pod xt etc, but I would use also a mic on the vetta for example and 'choose' or mix both after. In addition by using the DI box to send a signal back to tape/HD etc, you can use that signal, as mentioned above, to choose another sound /amp setup afterwards. Just an idea, but I'm not recording engineer.

I'm not an engineer either, just a guy who records his own songs. For me, I've been sort of cultivating this "horrible" guitar sound for a while now... I want to make the guitar still sound recognizable, but also god awful, while still being able to drive a hook right into a person's brain ;-) It's an interesting sound, and once you are in the frame of mind of the sound, it can also sound very beautiful. I find it a lot more emotionally useful to be able to just deal very directly with the listener, cutting out most of the middle-men, even in the signal path :-D

That would be great! I don't know why we don't have more "technique" samples here at the site. You can hear some of my recent experiments with a disgusting guitar sound here:

www.nowhereradio.com/youngidiot/

Go to "discography" then to "In The Yawn of a Blink"

What's you're hearing is a Radio Shack dictation mic- literally the most offensive piece of 'recording' equipment, I think, on the face of the earth- pressed up against the strings of a Les Paul Custom, and also used on my voice. I don't think you'll find a rawer sounding guitar anywhere. It's like treblecore ;-)

You can send me something to ObsidianSW@aol.com

Dude, that rack ROCKS! Good luck with it. At AES this year I was speaking with the guy from Emperical Labs and he was sharing a setting that he uses for bass and vocals, which is actually on the front of the Distressor but I'm to stupid to read. It's the Opto setting: 10:1 with the Attack on 10 and the Release on 1, man that setting sounds insane!!! Very warm and it gets warmer as you slam it. Have fun.

Question, anyone

Can I rack those CS' closer/on top of each other. I need the room, but I'm worried its a little too hot for those to do that?

Advice?

Dear Mr Razor Blade

what childhood did you have - a very hard one I suggest. It's not very nice of you showing all this gear so publically (even my girlfriend agrees). You make us others have a very hard time the next few weeks. Keep in mind we all have to match your level of gearsluttyness and you raised the bar to unreachalbe hights

So I hope you won't show us such lovely pictures again. Thanks for your understanding.

Jo

Man have fun with that stuff
