Pendulum MDP-1

Who's using this pre? Does it fall into the clean and transparent category?

It falls in the BIG AS A HOUSE category. I own 7 MDP-1s. They sound unreal. I own Fern, Manley, Neve, Shep, Trident, API, Focusrite, to name a few. Pendulum is my favourite tube mic pre. It is gigantic. Nice DI too. I recommend it to anyone going for extremely fat sounds. Good Luck! If you have any particular questions, feel free to ask.... Kris

Kris,
from what i remember from RAP,you had the "full" versions of the mdp-1a ( with transformers on the output),did you ever compare the standard and "full" version?

Pendulum MDP-1, goood stuff Maynard.

Very clean, lots of gain, and if you want to "enbigin" you can.

I own the Standard as well. They all sound amazing. Different mics in different situations react differently. I use them equally. Usually, it always sounds great. Regardless of which I use. I never find myself reaching for anything else when I start with the Pendulum. The only time I have is when I feel there is too much tube saturation. Then I may go to a solid state pre. I use them based on the gain structure I am seeking. The different transformers have different gain levels. Example: when using a ribbon mic I usually go for the one with the Jesen 115k transformers. U47, the Jensen 16A or the standard.... which ever is closer to where I am! They both rock. I hope this is of help.-Kris
