What makeup mic gain for Pullet?

Getting ready to make the jump on the Pullet and was wondering has anyone found any other cool combinations worth checking out besides the Early Bird 2.2?

(I got some ideas of some older mic pres/line amps i think i want to try but i will have to track them down unfortunately since i don't own them).

I experimented a little with Great River, Chandler Germanium (pre and EQ, yes) both with great result (or expected result, as their character was adequate for kind of job).
Exceptionally interesting combo was with Gordon pre (superbly hyperrealistic without being boring or sterile).
I've found it very useful where smooth, passive type of midrange equing was required.
Still, usually it resides with Earlybird as addition to its active EQs

Personally i am looking for something more since i plan on using it on vocals and snares.

The Earlybird is just too much coin right now and it left me wanting something more.
