this neve desk

greetings to all
i have been keen for a small desk
to compliment my HD3 rig
and was recently offered this
with no history , does anyone know anything
about it?
i can stop looking at the picture
and thinking it has a certain retro flair!
but what does it sound like?

I think that looks like a neve 5422

They have very basic eq, IC 's and transformer coupled inputs.. They have a huge amount of pre fader headroom around +36dBU . I was looking at one of these earlier this yr but it didnt come off..

a 1073 it aint, but very damn cool for summing and mobile tracking.

Geoff T has posted about them on his site i remmeber so go and cehk it out there.

Cheers
Wiggy

It's a Neve 34 OB (outside broadcast) desk, as used by the BBC. The smaller ones turn up more often, fitted in a portable(ha!) 'briefcase', sometimes there's a rather old fashioned looking telephone handset mounted over on the RH side. This one may have been installed in an OB truck.

NOT a 34... it is 542

I made a mistake ... it's not a 34, it's a 542. I just remembered where I've seen one - producer Ben Hillier (Blur, Elbow) has one he uses as a sidecar. He's had it modified so each channel has a direct out, it sounds good

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

Depends on what you are looking for in a mixer....

If you want something for summing with EQ, and the ability to have a mic pre if you need one.... Then, why not? If the price is right that is. I would also like to know the condition of the console before I purchased it.

Also, Coleman Rogers from PAD has developed a mod for the channels that greatly improves the sound. It's basically an IC upgrade, I think...

Hi

It's a Neve 5465... 16 channel, 4 bus into 2 bus into mono.

It has channel outputs and is the final derivative of the 54** range of consoles.

I've had a few through my shop and the are nice sounding consoles... not like a 1073 based Neve... but certainly not a bad sounding console.

I like them!

Wow, has anyone here ever used 90 db of gain?

I don't think I've ever used anywhere near the top of the range of my 1073.
