Thread Starter | Logic-MIDI (mac) & Pro Tools mix-audio (PC) best workflow?
Hi I have a PT Mix 4 system running on a PC. I have alot of cool preamps and outboards, and It works very well with recording. But It lacks alot on the MIDI part, and I`m planning to buy a macbook pro with Logic 8 and PT Le. I really like logic for all built in the instruments etc. Very cool for songwriting. I`m just trying to figure out how is the easiest way for those two systems to work together. Anyone using these two systems on PC and MAC? thanks |

I run two systems, but both are Mac based. Shouldn't be any different than a pc/ mac, two system setup. I stream the digital audio from the Logic rig to the PT 192 interface using Adat lightpipe which would require an interface for the Logic computer. Motu 2408, M-Audio Light bridge both work fine and others would too depending on how many lightpipe channels you want to stream into your PT rig. You will need to sync both computers via midi. I believe you can do this via ethernet, but I'm still doing it the old fashion way with separate midi interfaces attatched to each computer. Some audio interfaces have a midi i/o port so you may not need a dedicated midi interface. Seems like you could have either system slave or master to each other, but in my experience the only reliable sync I have found is for Logic to be the midi master and have PT slave to it. You can do some things with MMC that will let you still work the transport from the PT computer. Only drawbacks are the obvious - you pretty much have to duplicate all your arrangement edits, start points, tempo, etc.. Also, it can be a bit clumsy working on two systems at the same time and you will find yourself constantly typing the wrong key commands on the wrong system until you get really acclimated to the setup. Still it does get you what I think is the best of both midi and audio worlds. |

hi very cool info.. thanks alot ![]() If I install PT Le on the same mac that runs Logic Pro. Any easy way to open a logic session in PT Vise Versa? ex. If I do a basic acoustic production in PT and bounce a stereo track, import the stereo track in Logic. Do midi Programming. What do I do to get all the tracks into PT again? Do I have to bounce everything to audio and then import all the tracks into PT? I can later open the PT LE session in my PT mix5 system thanks again |
