Songwriting Setup

I'm about to move into a new studio apartment and am looking to upgrade my gear. I'm a singer/songwriter, making mainly rock and folk music, with a bit of jazz too. I wanted to get a two channel setup for miking acoustic guitar/piano and vocals.

My thoughts are as follows:

Blue Kiwi / Soundelux E47 (will demo both and see which sounds better on my voice)

Microtech Gefell 930s

Chandler LTD1 & API3124MB+

Apogee / Lavry converters

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated. BTW I will be acoustically treating the space and monitoring through S3as.

Oh yeah I'm currently running a RODE K2 into a Grace 101 then into a Lynx card.

did i interpret you correctly that you record at most 2-channels at a time? if so, why a 4-channel API?

I was looking at the API 3124 because it's better value than the racks (i.e. a 500 series) but more importantly because i'm looking for expandability - I will be getting into recording drums at a later date (obviously will buy a multichannel A/D at that stage) .

I'd check out the Beyer M-88 for vocals unless you want to pick up every truck for miles around! The brand new versions of the AKG 414 should also be on your shortlist as should a pair of Schoeps mikes.

The Lynx cards sound better to me than the Apogees of a couple years ago. Mytek and Benchmark should be checked out in addition to Lavry and the brand new Apogees.
