Bock 251 Tips and Applications

I have a Bock 251 on order - although to date I have not had a chance to check one out in the flesh (living in South Australia).

It would be great to hear from Bock 251/151 and ELUX 251 users about any tips and favourite applications - particularly in relation to voice types/styles that have made you

For starters, in what circumstances should I think about putting my trusty old 47 back in the cherry wood and try hanging the 251 instead?

Cheers - Lemongum

i think you'll hear it - those are my two go to mics - once in a blue moon someone
will sound good on both - they are a perfect compliment to each other - 95% of
people i find will sound good on one of those mics - if you have a shouter, you
might want to get an sm7

be well

I've used the ELUX 251's on male and female vocals, with various different preamps (Vintech, Martech, John Hardy, Neve) and the mic has never failed to impress me ... great mic!

Obviously brighter than a 47, with the presence peak in a different place, too. I usually find that it requires less EQ than a 47 to sit in a mix, although it will obviously depend on the sound your particular 47 has and the type of music ...

I use an Elux 251 as my main vocal mic. Normally through a GT Vipre or API. You're going to love it.

Elux 251 user here.
You won't need tips and tricks.
It has incredible range and works on almost anything. (piano, percussions, voice etc.)

Let it warm up before you hit record.

Thanks all for the comments and observations - particularly in relation to a 251 being a good potential stable mate for my 47. I have found myself getting into the habit of using the Neumann as a matter of course.

Just recently though, I tried it on a female singer with a bit of a hard early-mid peak that simply didn't benefit from the usually gorgeous K47/VF14 mid-range thing.

It set me on the path to checking out a 251!
