Best Mastering Studios on the Planet

Hey fellow Slutz,

where do you send your top-stuff to master?
what price-range do you consider normal? i'ld like to have a global oveview. E.g. everything concerning recording is a lot more expensive 'round here in germany, and it would be interesting to see, in what places what prices are asked.

Bernie Grundman. Bob Ludwig.

Prices are negotiable. I found Grundman to be pretty reasonable.

As above. Plus:

Cutting Room

Here's a funny story involving Cutting room. Michael B Tretow* had just finished the mixing of the latest ABBA record (I think it was Arrival) and had invented the "clogs-on-plywood" pop kick drum. Next day the master tape was returned from Cutting room with a note saying: "I'm sorry but the tape must have been damaged during transport since the kick drum is ruined. Please mix again and send it back."

It's hard to be a pioneer.

* Send the guy a thought. He's recently had a major stroke and is paralyzed
