i would like to see digi:

1) resolve the subsample issue with hardware inserts.
2) offer multiple sample rates in the same session.
3) make a small 96kHz mbox type deal to edit while you travel.
4) reach an agreement with UAD.
5) make digitally controlled analog boxes, so you could build anything from a simple summing box to a full blown console. one of these would be a digitally controlled analog patchbay. maybe a strategic alliance with someone extra slutty.

Huh? Why would bouncing slower make it sound better? Sorry to tell you, but there's no magic a DAW is going to do during BTD to make it sound better than the way it sounds when you hit play and mix. Even the dudes who think BTD sounds worse than when they're playing it back aren't saying it should sound BETTER after a bounce than when they play it back.

That problem rest primarily at the feet of Apple.

I'm going to go ahead and pray that they don't announce ANYTHING! I just paid a small fortune (nearly $9k) just to swap out my PCI X cards for PCI E cards so I could run this stuff on the new Mac Pro's (which I also bought two off). I've spent enough on DIGI this year! PLEASE.. NO NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR AWHILE!!

How so? Apple doesn't make operating systems specifically for Pro Tools to run on. Surely it must be in the hands of Digidesign to rescale/upgrade/reconfigure/re-whatever their software to work on the host computer and not the other way around?

I should specify.. I swapped out one HD 3 Accel PCI for PCI E and one HD 3 PCI (NON Accel) for HD3 PCI E Accel... So, in once case it was just cross-grade but in the second situation, I did gain processing power. It was STILL absolutely ridiculous what I was charged though.

In the end, I am not disappointed though. I now have computers that run very fast and handle virtual instruments and RTAS plugins way better. So... It was murder, but it was worth it in the end. I just don't want to have to give DIGI any more of my money anytime in the near future!

Remember Logic wasn't even compatible with Leopard for the first month.

Apple changes their specs in a heartbeat. Not only software but hardware.
Hence the reason why Leopard works with certain Macs/Digidesign hardware and not others.

I talked to some of the software team a few weeks ago and they gave a blow by blow of the difficulty on the Leopard transition.

Apple is like any other huge company, getting the exact proper info to places inside your company (other software designers) is difficult at best.

This happened a few years ago when Apple would change spec when going from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10.
They decided seed certain items for Leopard (10.5) that would make it incompatible to Digidesign software.
Hence the reason Digidesign had certain requirements for upgrade on that particular dot release.

These guys are working full steam on the problem.
Believe me, there is NO upside to not being Leopard compatible.
It's a loss of sales when they are not 100% compatible.
So their impetuous is to get Leopard fully functional ASAP.
