For me, the King's Head isn't a real option in the first place 'cause their English beer selection blows. Newcastle & Bass. Yuck.

In the Valley, there's Fox & Hounds in Studio City & White Harte in Woodland Hills. They're very similar since they were both started by the same guy (who now owns neither). Good range of beers, merely okay F & C.

The Robin Hood, at Woodman & Burbank, is the one nearest Dave's place. My kids really like the F & C there because of the extra-puffy beer batter.

It's not in the Valley, but no LA pub discussion is complete without a mention of the Cat & Fiddle in Hollywood. The beer list and the food are both mediocre. On the other hand, the outdoor courtyard is nice.

Can you tell me what pre-amp(s) you are using? (I know, nerdy gearslut question, sorry)

With my la610 it can get very 50ies sounding...

+1 for it being a special mic. Recording an acoustic guitar with it is bliss.

I don't know about Fish and Chips... here in Holland we do fries with mayonnaise... And raw haring.

BUT.... and this is a Big But....

I've had a recent revelation that cannot be discounted. I'm sure many of you already knew this, but I did not. If you take a tube mic with xy tube in it, buy 4 more xy tubes and swap them out one at a time, you will get very subtle - but definitely noticeable, audible differences between one and the other. A bit more bass, or mids, different highs etc. AND, as we all know - capsules can have some variability as well.

So, that said, here's the difference that I have heard so far between the two:

1. The Pearlman (American Tube) has slightly more low end than the Peluso 2247 LE (that I had).
2. The Peluso had a slight high end "sheen" to it - just a bit of breathiness that didn't work with my voice, but worked well with other folks.
3. The Pearlman has a bit more thick mids at around 250-300.

The differences are quite subtle. They are both exceedingly excellent mics which hold up very well against some of the most revered microphones in history.

I'm currently working on a record using the Pearlman and I am really impressed with that mic. Really, really impressed.

Going back to my Big But above.... I would say that both of these mics (Pearlman/Peluso) are sweet. If you aren't hearing exactly what you want to hear from them (keeping in mind that both are designed to be mid-forward, bigger than life sounding mics without a lot of hype), I would try swapping tubes. It really does make a difference.

That's great, many thanks for your info!

I have the 2247LE (german tube) and definitely do not need more around the 250-300hz area - i believe have a slight build up of this in my room anyway, and end up dipping out this area on most recordings!

Thanks again
