Focal Twins are not under $3,000...at least the cool places where I would consider buying it. Ok, just found one place for just under 3K. The Focal 6 would be another good option more in a reasonable price range.

proac studio 100's

i love them. they have pretty good low end representation, but i suggest adding a sub...M&K? whatever floats your boat. the proac's are a bit bright, but that fits me.

btw...i also hate the mackie's...they make everything sound as if i was in a small square room.

I agree for the NS 10, even tough they might be outdated to many, you can't go wrong with them, plus if you get use to them you will be confortable monitoring in pretty much any studio as most have at least one pair. make sure to get a sub as they have NO LOW end.
I heard some good stuff about the genelec 8030/40a i might get a pair as well. (I'm using ns 10 with genelec sub and event 20/20 bas for now)

Just so you're aware, the Focal Twin6 BE (pair) including ground shipping anywhere in the continental USA are $2990 from us. However, maybe we're not a "cool place" lol.

Hows thats then?

ADAM monitors use ribbon tweeter technology, now that is something to talk about IMO. PMC has great driver technology and just sound great. Genelec 8040s are well proven and need little introduction. The KRK Expose E8B are made in China fwiw (why o why), and I reserve a big ? for that alone when it comes to speaker / amp technology at the high end.

Under $3K - Klein and Hummel 0110 pair. Not the loudest kid on the block, but for this price range and size they are very accurate and balanced.

Wasn't this topic about nearfields under 3000$?? Why are you listing Barefoot then? They are hardly under 3000$ for a pair.. try 7000$. That'll get you some barefeet.

Cheers!

Top 5..
My best mixes have been through these:

Dynaudio BM6A's
Tannoy little golds
Westlake BBSM6
Genelec 1031's
Yamaha NS10's

These may not be the most popular exciting and attention
getting..but they worked for me. I could paste a list of the
current new monitors you'll probably see at AES but then
I wouldnt be talking from experience.

Klein and Hummel 0110 and the Focal 6 are in the running with the KRK trying to catch up. I have a home studio in a 16 x 14 room with a 7'5" ceiling. Want to update my monitors from my Events which I think are pretty good for their price. Based on reviews I have read the Focal are more forward sounding compared to the K&H monitors. If that is the case, I would prefer the K&H. However they are so small and I am not sure if I would be happy with the low end. And no I can't afford to spend $1,000 on a sub. I do this recording stuff for fun.
