Help - Filling 500 series Lunchbox

Need to fill a 6 slot BAE lunchbox system for a guy, that predominantly works in the R&B/Hip Hop scene. But with the flexibility for acoustic/gospel and funk work also.

Budget is around the $2-3.5k ballpark.

So far we have a Peluso 2247Le (Vocal Mic) + 2 x Distressors.

Need a great pair of do it all pre amps. Vocals mainly, acoustic guitars, bass, keys, loops, etc.

So far leaning towards the BAE 312C and the A-Design EM-PEQ (Pultec 500 series), and also the API 550A?

If I've read correctly you can use the 312C + 550A in tandem? But can I also use the EQ and the Pre amp separately?

All suggestions welcome (500 series relevant).

Thanks,
Joash

For a very versatile EQ I would check out the Speck ASC-V, I have two and they are very useful. I also like the Great River Mic Pre's which can come for the 500 series, although they take up two spaces each. The Great River is very versatile, it can be clean or more colored depending on the settings.

Joash,
You should seriously check out the JLM PEQ500 modules..
These are on my list of "to buy" after some 512C pres..
I have 2 Purple Action comps in my new API lunchbox already..
Check out the JLM site - they are very well priced compared to alot of other 500 series stuff..

I agree about the MA5, very nice Neveish sound, very colored, great for vocals. Also Tim's suggestion about the JLM......very cool sounding. I've sold my P-1's and Biz's and replaced them with the JLM 99v and JLM TG500 also sold a pair of API 560 and replaced them with JLM PEQ500 pultec style EQ.
I don't sell this stuff I'm just yelling out the message GET JLM, DON'T BELIEVE ME TRY IT OUT YOURSELF.
Sorry I couldn't help myself.

Purple Action is my go to for a do anything pre. I have MA5's, OSA and API as well and all of them are great. Particularly to MA5, it's an absolute beast on guitars and vocals. The Biz has delivered great vocals, guitars (acoustic an electric), bass, snare, keys......It also has a front panel 1/4 that's very convenient. The dual button and adjustable input and output create a wide variety of sound possibilities.

A-Designs P-1, EM-PEQ ( both are must haves IMHO ), SPeck ASC-V ( nice more surgical ), in the future i would be adding the Great River MP-500NV, and the LaChapell 583s ( amazing pres ), so much and so little time: (~
for some a bit neutral or lacking in color i would say look at the MINT JULEP.
