Thread Starter | New Studio Setup Advice
Hi there, Im setting up a new studio and just thought I'd ask here for some advice on somethings that I wasn't 100% sure about. Once I have my mix on the desk and ready to be recorded what is the optimum way? I am thinking that it will be best to record the output of the stereo buss to a separate system that can run at it's own DAW at the highest possible Bit Depth / Sample Rate. What is the preffered resolution of a bounce when it is sent to a mastering engineer? I am only assuming that it is as high as possible (24/192)? thanks for your help in advance! _n_ |

24b/96k is plenty high enough for even the best mix engineers. Usual practice over here is to print back into the session - so if you session is 24b/44.1, so is your master etc. Rather than getting a whole 2nd rig to print to, why not just buy an ultra top notch 2ch converter to print through? money better spent..I'd rather print back through a lavry/apogee etc than print to a 2nd rig with standard converters. |

The way you want to do it will work fine. However like psycho monkey, I print back into the same session as well. One advantage to printing back to the session is that at any time you can refer to different mixes you've done without loading up anything else because it is all stored in your session. I find this quite useful. |

Printing back into the session is handy, but if your looking for the optimal way to do it then you should get either a 1/2 analog machine (it will make all your mixes sound 20% better) or get an Alesis Masterlink to record the final mixes at 24/96k. If you are primarily mixing projects that originate at your studio then just start all your sessions at 24/96k -- you'll be glad you did -- that way you can run your final mix through your 1/2" machine back into your session at 96k -- vvvwwwaaalllaaa --- perfection! |
