Stereo channel strip

Does anyone have suggestions for a good 2 channel strip (or more) with eq that can be mixed down to a single signal?

Here's the scenario:

A bluegrass band that uses a "single mic" setup with an extra mic (or di) for the bass. I would like a single unit that can accomadate these two inputs, with individual eq for each channel, and a single output. This output would be run directly to a 31 band, then directly to powered speakers.

One unit that I like is the API 3124MB+ (with the mixer), however there is no eq in this unit.

Any suggestions?

A 2 channel preamp with EQ and summing? Sounds like you need a small mixer.

The API would work, but it has no EQ... Since this is for live sound... why not just get a small mixer like an Allen and Heath MixWizard or TL Audio M3? Not as sexy as the API, but probably would suit your needs better.

Thanks Chas!

The thing I like about using outboard pres is how easy it is for us to load in and out.

I currently use have one rig with a Presonus Eureka, a 31 Band, and our in ear mix.

I sometimes use a small Soundcraft mixer if needing more channels, but I really would like to not carry it around.

What about the ATI 8MX2?

API 8MX2 ATI's powerful 8 X 2 X 8 Mixer / Mic Pre

8 channels of preamps with summing in one rack space...

Here's a thought. And take this with a grain of salt as I've never used these units, but......

(x2) SSL Alpha Channels.

You can use the "insert sum" feature to sum both the channels, you get EQ on both channels + a lite limiter on the final output. And if need be you can use the built in A/D converter.

Although bluegrass doesn't scream SSL, it could be a nice fit your needs.

Add an EQ to the "insert point" on the 3124MB+ before you mix the sounds together. That's one of the beautiful things about a 3124MB+ is that you have an insert point between the output of the pre and the input to the mix buss.

I use the 3124MB+ with stuff hanging on the insert points all the time... the Great River EQ-2NV might be just the ticket for exactly what you're trying to accomplish when combined with the 3124MB+.

Best of luck with your search!!

Peace.

Pendulum SPS-1. I used to use this for live setups like you describe. It even has a remote DI if you want to use it.
