Euphonix MC Pro & MC Mix

Greetings to all.

Bit of a contrasted hardware question here.

Does the MC Pro work with the MC Mix's?...

I got my hands on a MC Pro for all of 10 minutes today and absolutely loved it. Only issue is that I do not have $40K to drop on a base System 5-MC (is that even the entry unit?). I can, possibly, however afford the core MC Pro and a few Mix's kicking around purely for extra channel faders.

I can't imagine there would be issues... But then again who knows. Euphonix doesn't say, and I don't think they would impose any restrictions on that sort of use, but I'm not sure.

Cheerio.

No, it does not. I asked the same question. The artist series is it's own thing. I was hoping I could use the little fader packs with my MC.

The MC pro, as they call it now, costs around $15,000 and each 8channel fader pack is around $19,000. You also would have to get the console frame which is another $6-7,000. So for a "basic" setup with 16 faders and the MC pro including frame you'd be just under $60,000 (plus computer, DAW, Monitors, Drives etc.)

That sucks. That really sucks.

What was the reason exactly, if you got one? Have you tried it?

I mean, "Doesn't work" and Unsupported are two different things.

Unless the software isn't compatible on the same machine, I would think, in theory, you'd just land up with a MC Pro sitting by itself and however many MC Mix's sitting around. I'd think (I could be wrong) that it would be up to the audio application to sort out the faders and stuff and make it all work- just like if you had a Mackie MCU setup sitting around with multiple extenders.

The only thing I think wouldn't work would be application and workstation switching. If they're using two different software packages, I'd think the MC Mix and MC Pro would follow different applications or workstations, rather then as a group.

Other then that- what else is a man supposed to do for faders??? What do you use?

I really, really want this to work. If it doesn't, then I can't live without faders of some sort (plus, I wanted to order a MC Pro with the joysticks- and use the MC Mix's exclusively as the faders). I mean, NKK-Smart Switches are fun and everything, but not for $15K if it isn't going to co-operate with the other hardware (might as well buy an MC Control in that case).

Gah.

Thanks for the replies and everything. The 5-MC system is just over my head for what I want to be doing. $15K elsewhere gets me some S3A's and a bigger Mac Pro (plus some RAID goodies).

Guess I won't be going with the MC Pro after all.

Cheers.

As far as I understood it, it's two different kinds of Eucon protocols and the computer can only deal with one of those at the time.

Just checking

Hey,
Not wanting to dispute Michael, but thought I'd check if it's still the case that the Mc Pro and Mc mix absolutely won't work together with the same DAW. Anyone come up with workarounds. Anyone tried and failed miserably?
Cheers,
Jon
