I got to play with one a little bit about a year and half ago. I can't really say how it sounds as it was at a dealer and not a place to be really critical.

I will say however, that I found the interface very clunky and counter intuitive. I'm usually a quick study but I kept finding myself where I didn't want to be and always had a hard time getting out. Kind of like a bad night of drinking.

My 2c.

Posted fuel economy figures may vary in real world conditions. ;)

I havent used one but I have heard a number of users sorely dissapointed - software failures being the main problem - I havent yet heard any stories similar to the D8B - bursting into flames.......heard about it and seen it !

I would be hopeful that the software issues should have been sorted - I think if i was in the market for a moderately priced digital console i'd be looking at yamaha. Solid reputation. Something of Mackies track record in digital consoles doesnt fill me with confidence.

After being part of the D8B I would say I'd never touch another Mackie Product again... sight unseen. It was one of the my worst audio purchases of my career.

Mackie mic preamps are crap and will ALWAYS be that way. I used to use a Mackie mixer with it's horrible preamps and after switching to Api, Daking and Purple Audio mic pre's, there's no comparison.

Looked & thought about it, then had a look on the Mackie forum...

Ten foot pole, mate 10 foot pole!

YMMV, of course...

I know someone that was so disappointed in the XBus (and what Mackie claimed that it could do) that he sued them and won quite a bit of money. I am not allowed to comment any more than that. I can just tell you that I know the person and can confirm that the story is true.

Wrong Forum. This should be in low end theory...

uggghhhh... total piece of crap. The shame about it is.... that the idea behind it had REAL potential. But to me... it sounds bad, doesn't work right, and Mackie is just WAY, WAY, WAY to slow to fix issues. Beyond the Mackie Control (which will soon be replaced with the new Euphonix piece), I just couldn't be dragged kicking and screaming back into a Mackie product...

Sorry Mackie...maybe hard truth will help you improve?

Yes it did. I found myself wishing it had been anyone but Mackie who made it...

Man I sure wish Sony had made a DMX R-200.

Don't be so sure how things will ALWAYS be. The preamps in their Onyx mixers are actually quite good. I have a variety of relatively high end preamps in my studio (including API and Purple from the brands you mentioned) and while I don't disagree that they're better than the preamps in the Mackie, I have one of the Onyx mixers I take out to record live gigs and have been very happy with the quality. The preamps don't have the personality (or personalities) that the API and Purple preamps have, and while they're relatively clean they're certainly not on the level of GML-type stuff, but they're more than usable and espeically not bad considering the price difference between them and the others mentioned.

Having said that, even if it worked flawlessly, I think the dXb was a great idea for a product that was just several years too late to the market.
