Has anyone used a Wunder CM12?

To continue my Wunder Audio obsession...
Has anyone used this mic? I haven't heard much buzz about this mic at all...but I like the fact that it's supposedly a replica of the earlier silver C12's...My only application for it would be vocals - no drums...I'm looking for the ying to my CM7's yang...Is it overkill? Is there a better alternative out there that covers the C12 base? I thought the P12 was pretty nice...I have it stuck in my head that it was a little harsh, but I need to go back and listen to some of those files...

John,

I also wondered about that mic for awhile too. Doesn't get much hype like the 47's. But I decided to finally try it, and it was very nice. Also had a Peluso P12 on hand, and the Wunder CM12 was better no question, and all three people in the room agreed. The Wunder excelled on acoustic guitar, and was nice on drum overheads. If I had kept the CM12, I'd always use it on acoustic, it was that good. However, I preferred the Wunder CM7 v15 for vocals, what a great mic! If I wanted something different, I'd choose a 251 over a C12 for vocals. If I was a true slut, I have a pair of each of them!

The Peluso P12 wasn't bad though and it did do a nice job. But it didn't sound as full and as detailed as the Wunder in my opinion. Is that margin of "betterness" worth it at roughly 5k more? The Peluso will get you in the ballpark, but the Wunder will get you on base. I never heard a vintage C12, so maybe that would get you a grand slam. Sorry for the cliche analogy.

One last thought, (if you're going on looks) aesthetically, the CM12 is a beautiful mic, like a work of art, no really a site to behold..LoL Swivel mount, jewel, all cool and well done. Mike Castoro (at Wunder) puts out top notch stuff and is a good guy. Definitely a company to keep your eye on...

This would be a second mic to have for singers that need a brighter mic than the 47, so I'm honestly not sure I want to put that much money into it. Anyone have experience with the Tele M16 MkII?

The reason the CM12 is not as well known as the CM7 & CM7GT is that their made in smaller production runs. There are less than 100 out there. If we had more time would could step up production with reviews, PR, blah blah, but we are comfortable with low production the same goes for the CM49 and CM50. All these low production mics are the bomb and as long as I got them to use, I am happy. The way I think is way more music/recording orientated than business.

The CM12 is on the exact par as the CM7 and actually cost slightly more to make due to that Swivel Mount. The CM7 does have a Swivel mount option though. We think that the CM7 is technically better with our shock mount but if someone wants the Swivel for the vibe factor, the CM7 Swivel looks exactly like the historic one. I remember back when I only used U47's and I never took out the swivel mount and opted for the shock. Way less rumble.

Hey Mike, when are you going to bust out a CM12-GT? You're contributing to my family's financial ruin...!

The best piano sound I've ever heard was on the Eastwood stage at Warner Brothers. 2 vintage C12s on the 9' Steinway. Brought tears to my eyes...

I need a pair of C12s for our film-scoring studio project, btw...

I have a great sense of humor, but I didn't like having to force quit my browser because of the malicious javascript in that link when
I was in the middle of a bunch of work and had 5 windows open, so once again

Besides, the only thing I can recall from reading your previous posts were your idiotic rants at Fletcher every chance you get, so you are already on my sh*t list.

You guys are fun.

I can say the AKG C12 was my favorite mic on Lynn's Mic CD.

If the 47 was the GQ man of mics the C12 would be gracing this months Sports Illustrated.
