| Sony DMX-R100 digital outs advice wanted Hi, I'm in need of some good advice. Yesterday I received my new speakers. Thing is these come with optional builtin DACs (Toslink spdif). Now I'm trying to figure out if there's any possibility to bypass the internal Sony DAC, still keeping as much as possible of the CR functionality. But shit the Digital I/O seems a bit limited on the DMX. Anyone out there with the experience? Henri |

| Sony makes an add on card that has 4x2 dig outputs. you can assign your control room outs to this card so you can go to external dig inputs on your speaker. I forget the card number but several people use this combo. I use this config but go to a Benchmark DAC to analog Genelec's. Maybe some one can chime in with the card number for you. Larry

| Henri, if you already have the AES expander card Omega Arts refers to, or if you want to use the the built-in digital aux outs- Go to the audio outputs page and touch "MISC". There you will see the 6 CR outs - just assign them (1 and 2 for stereo) to the digital output you want and you will still have control of your volume via the CR knob. This is also how you would connect/route an external D/A, such as a DAC-1. Since the Sony only outputs AES, you might have to get an AES to SPDIF converter, but maybe not.

| Thanks guys for good advice on AES and routing. It sounds like the R-103 card could be pretty useful but in the meanwhile I'll try to run thru the aux as you suggested. HOSA corp has a small AES->SPDIF converter that will do the job. |

| Don't get the Hosa one, it only passes 16 bits. Get the one by M-audio (CO2), or even better, get a inline adapter that converts from 75 to 110 Ohms.

I didn't know Mutec made these products, thanks for the link! I'm thinking I could use a couple of the bidirectional units for sends/returns of FX, if they're reasonably priced.

| Killa, the bidirectional unit costs approx EUR 280 in Europe. I'm not sure if Mutec has any dealers in the US (yet), so I suggest you to contact them directly. |
