anybody tried stereo micing a 5.1 room?

was thinking this might be interesting... to put a stereosonic pair in the sweet spot in a 5.1 room. audio can, if necessary be processed with some spatial fx before being sent to the monitors...

sort of like guitar cabinet room meets echo chamber...

anybody tried this...?

.007,
self.

sounds cool....like a pair of omni's in the middle of a surround set-up....

Wonder what it would sound like....

Tried it last year, it was interesting.

5.1 ADAM S3A's through 8' of air in a very quiet CR, QTC1 pair to EW LAB102, Apogee A/D, Sony DMX R100.

I was actually pursuing the creation of an effect for a surround mix, but I did listen to it as a stereo mix. I recall the surrounds needed to be turned down to make it closer to listening in the room. Also, I could hear my back diffuser wall a little more. I guess the QTC's are more "omni" than my ears are. I ended up pointing the mics directly at the diffuser wall to get the effect

But you know, M. Wagener has "Fritz the Head", I bet Fritz could really test out the theory...assuming you are wanting to bottle the surround experience into a stereo field, which is about like everybody stepping off the bus and cramming into a VW.
