Thread Starter | Chandler Mini Mixer Some info on me, what i've tried, what kind of music i do etc...
Got the germanium and LOVE the colour...
(i'm the "can't get enough of colour kind of guy)....
Tried the chandler germanium comp and it's on the "to buy in 08" list...
The only problem is that i can't get my hands on Chandler mixer without buying here i Denmark and the store (where i do all my gear shopping) won't be happy if i return it....(items like the chandler mixer don't sell very much in denmark)...
Shops like that aren't like the big shops like in the states, it's more like the room where the big american shops keep their guitar strings
I mainly do rock, pop, blues and hard rock...
My studio is based on a PT HD2accel system with one 192 interface
I've tested the 8816 and it did ok, but it was just to clean/boring for my taste...the whole 20 discrete amplifiers and 22 custom wound transformers makes sense to me Vs. the impact on the "sound/colour" Here comes the questions to the mini mixer owners:
01:
Try to draw my a picture like i'm a 3 year old...
does the germanium pre and the mixer sound anything a like??
(or maybe the TG series...had the TG channel and the germanium out for a test when i bought the germanium.....)
02:
Please compare ITB Vs. OTB with the mini mixer stereo image/depth !
03:
What's the upside of owning a mini mixer??
04:
aaaand what's the downside?
i think that's about it, thanks for your time..

1) I think it sounds much closer to the "TG" series
2) Converter choice is of paramount importance but I think you'll find quite a bit greater depth, dimension, size and emotion
3) They sound great!!
4) They're expensive [well worth the money in my opinion... but expensive none the less].

Thanks Fletcher, what do you think about the 192 interfaces Vs. the Lynx Aurora, would it make a difference to go the Lynx way or are the two in the same ballpark?

I would add to Fletcher's third point, re: the upside, that your mixes will probably come together faster.

I know there is a lot of love for the "germ" sounds here (rightfully so) . . . but the TG sound is f'n killer as well. . .

I have always found the 192 to be quite a bit dark in the top end, as I have found that using a converter such as the Aurora or an Apogee, allows a much deeper, wider frequency response overall.
As well, I have also found the 192 to be very cold sounding and without life in the bottom octave's, which leads me to "push" the low end, where I probably shouldn't.
The Aurora is much more neutral, as it has zero coloration and it does stay true to the source, to my ears anyway.

In other words, is it a "straight wire with emotion" type deal, or more of an emotional enhancer, ala Aphex Emotional Exciter?

Thanks!
