Calrec CM1051 pricing

Anyone know what a pair of these things go for? They're ****in' fantastic overheads...they do exactly what my other two favorite OH mics don't, and I'd love to add a pair to my rig.

Also, any place y'all know of that has some for sale?

Thanks!

I know its an old post but., Roughly $400 - $600 each if in good nick.

Although I recently saw a pair going for $550. I should have grabbed them at that price, great mic's!

Sshhhh! More talk like that on here and we'll end up pushing up the price - I'm trying to get a pair!

Absolutely superb as OHs - massive fan of these mics.

I have used a variety of Calrec mics and yes, they are great!

The modern equivalent would be the Hebden Sound mics, they took over when Calrec went out of the microphone business. They are relatively cheap for an English-made mic with an individual sound. Not sure if they ship to the US, though...

Hebden Sound

Otherwise, for old Calrec mics I would have a look at the classifieds section in this forum (hint)

Regards,

Santiago

How do these compare with the more standard neumann km84/85 and akg c451eb mics?

I picked up a pair today... quite keen to try them out...

Well, I just picked up a pair myself, and I have a serviced KM85 on its way to me as well, so I should be able to let you know how they compare!

In principle the Calrecs should be a little bit brighter, but we will see...

Ok, I have just done a little ab-ing.

The Calrecs (CC56 capsule, with windshield_ are not that different from the KM85. The main differences would be:

- The Calrecs have less gain, so, depending on the preamp they can be a bit noisy when recording very quiet stuff (finger picked guitar miked at 1 m distance)

- The KM85 has a much more drastic bass roll-off, so it's more suited to extremely close miking (otherwise you should use some EQ to bring the bass back!). In contrast, the Calrecs are more balanced and have more bass, so you can use them further back. (this is for the CC56, I would expect the windshield gives it less proximity effect than the 1051, which is probably bassier)

- The Calrecs have a very slightly more hyped high end, but are actually not far from the KM85, I'd say they sound quite similar.

I might add a few samples to show this.

The Calrecs are also somewhat wider in their pickup pattern...
