Neumann U47 FET Modern day version/CLONE?

Just wondering,

What and who makes the closest version of a U47 FET. Looking to buy one in a month or two. But would also love to hear the modern day version.

I've seen Telefunken have a few U47's, anything else out there?

I've been told Sounedlux ifet7 and Korby KAT FET are modelled after the Neumann U47fet, but I've actually never heard them, I'd like to know how they compare with the original though..

David Bock is on his own (no more Soundlux as far as I know). His Bock Audio 195 looks like a contender but I've nerver heard it.
I do recall reading about some iFet7s having problems. So in the event you find a used one for sale I'd check it out carefully.

Believe it or not... the Crowley & Tripp "el diablo" sounds closer to a 47 FET than any of the fore mentioned condenser mics... or at least that's my take on it... YMMV.

Lawson L47fet.

pretty dang close, maybe a little cleaner sounding though.. It's tough to say with a 35+ year old mic.

Not a clone, but when I need more than one fet47 (which I've only had one of), I'll use AT4047's. Bottom end bump is a little higher in the freq. range and top end isn't as hyped, but similar character and uses.

the u195 sounds nothing like a u47fet. it lacks the mid-thump of the u47 and sounds "more modern" if that makes any sense...

Wunder audio will be making one.. CM7fet. No idea how soon, might want to contact them. If its like the CM7 or the CM7GT it should be unbelievable.

Really hoping wunder makes a U67 clone!

I worked at studio with the Neumann, the Soundelux and the AT and though it wasn't as fat as the Neumann we used the AT4047 alot more than the Soundelux. Damn good mic for the price point. I guess that makes it 3 AT mics I can tollerate.

Bit of a bump, but anyone compared any of the following?

u47 fet, ifet7, cm7fet Advanced Audio 47-fet, Lawson 47 fet.

none of those will sound like a u47 fet. only a u47 fet will sound like one. i guess its quiet obvious. if you dont have the cash there are less expensive alternatives. but none of them will sound like a u47fet. its that simple. this applies for any classic mic im afraid. which explains their price....

a u47 fet will need the proper capsule, transformer etc...all these clone companies use their own interpretation of the capsules and transformers to keep the price down. which makes them a different mic. maybe still good. but certainly not a u47fet. the head grill imparts its sound as well. so no, not a single mic mentioned here can replace a u47 fet.

Just to clarify the Bock Audio 195 is not designed to be an 47fet clone. I am happy to report that the ifet7, which is was out of production returns early 2011.

Have you checked in to the Oktava MK-319? with Michael Joly's mod?

I recently bought one and I am very happy with it. It sounds "real close" to a 47FET. (at least to my ears)

There are sound clip comparisons on the oktavamod website.

Best of luck!

We have two U47fet at the studio. Tried to purchase a Soundelux iFet7 on Ebay, no luck. Was told its the closest.

One year ago we purchased a Wunder CM7Fet because the prices of vintage U47Fet went out of control.... Made a comparison on a bass drum with the U47Fet. Very very close. The problem, the Wunder mic is too hot. Have to put a pad in line for a bass drum. But I strongly recommend it for $2kusd instead of chasing a ''not beaten'' U47Fet on Ebay at twice the price....

Would be great if Wunder could built a pad in the mic.

Very happy to hear the Bock will come up with a new ''ifet7''.

ive never compared the u47 fet and ifet7 next to each other, but i have used the ifet7 recently on a kick. it did the lovely mid growl that i love about the u47fet.

The Blue Mouse can pull off a fet47 kind of thang in front of a kick drum. Makes a nice VO mic too.

got a 4047 a while ago, very nice mic. although it´s quite different to a u47fet, i wouldn´t hesitate to use it instead of a 47, for example on a kick. punchier, more focused and tight. nice!

Worth a try, sure. Worth keeping, not to my ear.

Sounds nothing like a 47 (not supposed to either), and doesn't sound particularly good either.

Second that... I've compared both and the ifet7 and Fet 47 as well and am extremely happy with the ifet7.

On Fletcher's note about the Crowley & Tripp (now shure) El Diablo... I compared it as well... Even though it's a ribbon... now thinking about it, hmm... I guess I can hear some correlative characteristic he's picking up on; Though we sold El Diablo.

My friend Brian has been using his Soundelux 195 for over a decade. He loves it for his voice. Great mic that never needs service. Although, it does not sound like a 47fet. The 195 is smoother and more even. The 47fet is big and robust.

Both great mics.

Happy New Year to the crew at Bock Mics. Great guys and great mics.

- Cheers

I did not read this whole thread but we are very happy with our wunder. I forget the exact model but it's the FET 7 or something like that.
