Thread Starter | Studio construction question
For some reason I can't post in the Studio construction & acoustics - section so I'll ask it here. Maybe the moderator can move it? We are finishing our studio wich we have been working on for 1 and a half years(Rockstar Recordings = Construction site - Fotoreport.). This week we start doing cabling and some questions came up. We are looking for an SSL 4000 G+ or 8000 G+ but these desks don't have enough aux sends to send mixes to the headphones. I was thinking about using a matrix system as I have seen in a few other studios. But also then I have a lot of questions: - Are the inputs of the matrix connected to busses or group outputs from the desk via the patch? Or do you connect the outputs from ,for example, protools straight to the matrix and send unprocessed signals to the headphones? - Maybe someone else has a more effective solution? |

I'm guessing that you're talking about using those little mixers out in the studio with the musicians? The way we do it in our room [we use the Langevin mixers as I think they sound the best of any I've heard] is to send the 2 mix to one stereo group and then buss the elements of the 2 mix to the rest of the inputs. So, the musicians on my sessions have "2 mix" [as it appears in the control room or as is setup on a stereo cue send] on one fader... stereo drum mix on another, bass on another, each of the rest of the instruments on another... that way they can build their mix to taste and will leave me the fvck alone vis a vis their cue mixes. Best of luck with the studio build!!!!

Yes that is what I'm talking about. Looks like an easy working way to give monitoring to the musicians. I want to try to do the connections so that even when the desk is gone we still wil be able to record and mix(itb). For this I will try to make a setup with the patch bay so that i can either patch the bus- and direct-outputs from the desk to the little mixers or patch the outputs of the protools to the mixers so I can make subgroups and stereo mixes wich I send to the pt outputs. thank you for your reply fletcher! |
