2 mic sibilance trick (I didn't get it)

I read about how F. Mercury had very sibilant vocals, and the only way to handle them was with 2 mics. Can anybody explain me how to use that trick?
Thanks, Andrés

I don't know for sure....but this would be my guess.

One mic is the main vocal mic, the other could be a sd mic. The sd mic get's everything except the silibant freq's removed, then is used to trigger a compressor on the main mix...ducking the silibant freq's....

Or both mic's were pointed at a 45 degree angle to the singers mouth and blended together....this prevents the singers voice from hitting the capsule directly and would calm some of the sibilance....just a thought..never tried this.
