It's a great new compressor for the entire mix

Anyone else have any favorite setting for the mix buss using the Portico?


hey...on a console like the Toft ATB where the master out inserts are a TRS send/return (unbalanced) Y cable type of insert...how does one hook up their outboard mix buss compressor to this kind of insert when most units, like the Portico 5043 only offer balanced XLR type of connections?
What cables need to be made up of what kind of box needs to go in between to connect an unbalanced in and out to balanced XLR connections?

How are other people using Balanced mix buss compressors with consoles that have TRS inserts?

You've got two choises:

1) Making balanced-unbalanced cables sacrifing half of the signal, around 6dB

2) buy a line level swticher like this Ebtech - Line Level Shifter - MADE IN USA

It depends on the song, but I tend to go with a bit faster attack than that and a slower release on the 2Buss. That said, I have only done rough mixes with the 5043 since I got it. I have been in a major tracking mode.

weird. I usually go with a slower attack and fastest release.
