Audio Upgrades High Speed Mic Pre Card

Anyone using these in their mixers?

If you've had your board modded or added an Audio Upgrades card I would love to hear some before and after samples posted if anyone has any handy,...or wants to take the time to make some.

As well, I would like to hear some thoughts on the character of this mic preamp.
Also your favourite instruments/vox to put through the AU micpre, etc, the hands-on subjective stuff.

Posting comparisons to other micpres is welcome too.

products

and yes I've used the search button extensively over the past week scouting some info. Just not a whole lot said about the card,....or I missed it somehow.

I am curious about the same thing, I have a symetrix sx202 that jim mods with those cards and it seems like that might be a somewhat inexpensive way to get two more good pre's. How do people like them versus other clean pres?

I'm in the process of having Jim mod my Soundcraft TS-24. I going to have him put the cards in mine so I might be able to post some samples but it may be a while.

One thing that I can't say enough is how happy I am with what Jim does, my console sounds awesome and I can't wait to get this whole thing finished. I'm sure that the pre cards won't dissapoint. (especially for the price)

What kind of console do you have?

I just wanted to clarify, Dimes have you had mods done by Jim previously, in addition to the mods you are about to have done?

Although I have owned mixers in the past, currently I do not own a mixer, but I'm looking for a way to up my preamp count without going all boutique-price-per-channel crazy, but still have some respectable preamps to use. I'm scouting out an used mixer mostly for overflow preamps duties, and perhaps mixing duties, and perhaps monitoring duties for location stuff.

Anyone else got clips or thoughts? If anyone in the Vancouver area has got some in their board, I'd love to drop by and take them for a spin if ya got some downtime in your studio, PM me.

Yes I have mods already. Jim has done the master section and 16 (so far) of my channel modules. I haven't had the pre cards in the ones that he's already done because these are being used for tape returns only. I am going to have channels 1-12 modded and have the mic pre cards installed. My TS-24 is a 40 channel 24 buss by the way. Jim also went through my power supply's.

What I can tell you is that I loved the sound of this console before and I heard that Jim did mods for the master that were really nice. Well, I chose to have him do his thing to the master and 4 of my channels and when I got them back I was blown away. Clear highs stronger lows everything just sounded so much better. So much so that I was bummed when I couldn't run everything through them, so began the quest of getting this whole board modded by him. That's where I'm at right now and I'm soo excited every time I pick up some more channels that have been worked on.

BTW last time I was at Jim's he was workin on a Soundcraft Delta (he thinks highly of) and it looked like a nice board that wouldn't have the commitment of a 600 pound behemoth like mine. Just a thought maybe you can look into it.
