Amazing Dynamic Mics!???

I just re-discovered the greatness of this AKG D120e that I have had for about 15 years. It sounds great on guitar amp, acoustic guitar, even vox... especially through a cranked telefunken pre and eq. Great clear midrange. I also am a new believer in the vintage AKG D12 on kick (Not The D112). I have been doing a bunch of live to 2" tracking with up to 5 players in the same room. Dynamics are really the heroes in this situation, where my tube condensers and ribbons just don't do it.
So, any other super sleeper dynamic mics that are amazing for things like snare and jangly upright piano. Please do not say sm57/58.

HA! I have this mic as well and it is great. Ironically, I got it with the d120 and an M160 as a trio. The three mics used to belong to the village recorder in the 70's i suppose.

Where do you use the PR40? would this be redundant since I own a new SM7. Not to be a vintage hog, but my mikes that are 25 + years old (even dynamics) always sound better than newly made stuff.

I thought dynamics kinda went down hill after 2o years due to the magnets losing strength

I might have exaggerated on the pr40 a little but
some like the 40 some don't

its great on vox-kick

Just dug out a pair of vintage Univox MD-614's... gonna try them out next week. I'll let you know if they have any magic... or if they just sound like they look.

oops

I guess a magnet lasts longer than 20 years
apparently heat or dropping a magnet can screw em up though

EV RE 15 and EV RE 16. I use the former on kick drum, the latter on toms, sometimes acoustic guitars, percussion, sometimes snare.

Ah yes, the EV 635a, an omni, is also great, e.g. on guitar amps, as a room mic, etc.

Cheers,

Recky

Bugger.

I was beaten to 1 of those and 3 SM54s on eBay yesterday.

By the same guy.

I take a little consolation from the fact it was only me and him bidding for the most part, and what started off at £100 ended up at over £400 for all 4 (all auctions added together) - and one was damaged. At least now I feel he paid what they were worth, rather than getting a steal!

AKG D-224-E. Cool and unusual dual-diaphragm design.

BTW how does the M69 differ from the M88? Do they sound similar?
