| Electro-voice RE-20/PL-20, RE-55/PL-6/DO-54, RE-15, RE-16, RE-18, N/D468 (nah, it's not an EV suckfest - EV just made some great sounding dynamics to my ear); Sennheiser 421, & AKG D-12. I've never cared for the Shure 57/58 mics; to my ears, the EV's sounded better. |

| To get the most out of this kind of mic the pre-amp is critical. What sounds band-limited or muddly/slow or hyped with the wrong input impedance can sound open, clear & magical with the right input impedance. This doesn't mean 'as high an impedance as possible' but rather high enough to get optimal transfer but not so high as to provide no electrical damping. Andy |

| fletcher.... Only one mention of the SM57 with TAB transformer? I'm suprised. That is one damn good mic. how is it on guitar amps vs a normal 57? |

| Gear maniac | Audix i5 -80% of the time i prefer it over an sm57. I like it on vocals as well, much brighter, and much more low end. I might just be immature/inexperienced in saying this, but im usually not a big fan of the sennheiser 421... too thin for me... but i may have not been able to find the right application for it yet to suit my taste.
