Yeah...I'm no 'high end' expert, but do think the M69 is a great sleeper mic and often recommend them as an on-the-cheaper side of things mic when an M88 is mentioned. I think I got mine (an older non-TG one) for, like, $70. That is a seriously good deal. I took up a recommendation and have been using it on bass cab with good results.

Oh..rats! I was supposed to keep quiet...

old AKG dynamics

I am so in love with the D12 and D1203 , i wonder how the D-19c is ? I know it has gotten more attention since the Beatle Book came. Look at this one going for $599 on ebay. That seems overpriced, or is this model really something special?

This is my second post on this adding information thread. I forgot a mic.

Assuming that by dynamic you mean not a condenser, the Beyer M160 is fantastic.

We've got 2 AKG D202's kicking around that I LOVE on bass amps in particular. They also work on certain guitar amps, depending on the tone you're going for. Those old AKG dual-port dynamics are funny mics, but very very usable.

Vernier, Are they really worth $600 ... or is this inflated because of beatles affiliation?
Is the D190 somehow a relative of d-19

It's just an average mic like a 57. Beatles probably used it for convenience more than anything. I use it for drums sometimes, and always on the Martin D18.

Some of my favorite dynamics are:

SM7
EV RE16
EV 635a (sounds good on everything if you ask me)
Heil PR30
Heil PR40
SM57 with TAB transformer

I'd much rather make a record with dynamics than condensers for some reason. Maybe it's because it makes me nostalgic for my 4-track days.

D 224 (Discontinued)

I believe each diaphragm was intended for different frequencies; one for bass, one for treble. I have one I've had for years and it sounds closer to a condenser than a dynamic. Flat to 20k.

Here's some archival AKG info....

Audix i5: Smoother top vs an SM57, and has a much more open and big sounding bottom end and none of the low-mid boxiness of an SM57 on snare, cabs, etc. All for the same price as an SM57.

Electro Voice ND468: Wow. On guitar cabs it's one of my favorite mics of all time. The pattern is incredibly tight, the top end response very open for a dynamic, and the mic is VERY proximity dependent for low end response. In other words, you can work this sucker 1/2" from a speaker and out from there and acheive the amount of low end woof you require (or need to eliminate). I've cut acoustic guitar tracks with it that rocked also.

Electro Voice ND868: Great kick mic, I've even used on some vocals with success.

Heil PR40: Condensor like sound, very versatile dynamic, you can pretty much put it anywhere.

Warhead,

After looking at your icon over the months , I can't help but be concerned by your impending immurement.

What happens when the last brick is laid?

Will Montresor just laugh and walk away?

yep great mic. Kept it after selling off most of my other mics.
Works well for vocals at home. Like most here SM7,RE20,441,421,M88 are cool
I do agree. A lot of people go for cheap chinese condensors at home. Where a dynamic will give them a better defined sound, with less spill of there crap room. Yes lacks a little clarity also lacks the teh top end plastic crap as well.

Made for live rock’n roll vocals, but try it on a snare or acoustic guitar and you’ll shit your pants.

I just used my PR40 along with a modded Oktava MC012 on acoustic guitar yesterday. The PR40 really captured the midrange and low end thump without being boomy or strident in the high end. The MC012 then filled out the extreme highs and lows nicely.
