Hi Everyone, Just wondering if anyone out there has tried the Crowley & Tripp Naked Eyed or the Pelsuo R14. I'm interested in getting a ribbon in the price range these 2 fall in. I would appreciate any input anyone has on these 2 mics. James R. Avian Studios (we're for the birds) |

Never used the mic, but I did notice that there is a used C&T Naked eye for sale in the TapeOp Buy and Sell section. Roger |

| Sorry to hijack but I really like this. A friend of the birds is a friend of mine. One one hand it's just being homely, but maybe on the other hand the birds are super-intelligent and plotting against us. Sorry about this. Jacob |

Hi Jacob, No problem. I think you got it right. They're actually super intelligent. Why else would we house, feed them and stand at their cage whistleling and cooing like a idiot. We have birds, so I'm right there doing all the above. And I'm suppose to be the smart one. Have a great day. James R. Avian Studios (we're for the BIRDS) |

i use two naked eyes mainly as drumoverheads and for electric guitars. espacially on e-guitars I like them very much. that said a few weeks ago i had the chance to compare them to a royer 122 on vocals, trumpet and as a mono-drum-room mic. on trumpet and vocals the naked eye came pretty close to the royer. on the drums the royer was much fuller and crispier. I could clearly here why the royers are standard in a lot of hi-end studios but given the price (two naked eyes approx the same price as one 122) the build- and sound quality of the NE is quite hi. conclusion: I´m saving for a royer 121 but will for sure keep my naked eyes. hope that helps didnt try the R14. greetings from austria/europe wolfger | |

They're solid and sound great. I don't know they can sell them so cheap. I'd personally prefer a more traditional mic mount but that's the only negative I can say about it.

Hi Wolfger, Just want to say thanks for your input on the Naked Eye, I really appreciate it. Sounds like it's a great value for the money. I'm getting closer to a decision. The Royer would be great, but I'm tryin to spread the money around that I have right now. I'm also looking into some (kit) solid state mic pres. The price of the Naked Eye would help me move in that direction. Have a great day. James R. Avian Studios (we're for the birds) |

Hi Tom, Just wanted to say thanks for your input on the Naked Eye. I really appreciate it. You mentioned the mount. Is it a unconventional design, or is it a flimsy unsecure one, or both? Have a great day. James R. Avian Studios (we're for the birds) |

Hi James, the mounting is unconventional but very flexible and stable. needs a little time to get used to, but I like it a lot greetings wolfger |

Hi Wolfger, Thanks for the clarification on the Naked Eye mount. I have a Peluso P12 and I'm not to crazy about the shock mount. Glad to hear that the C & T's is stable. One more good thing to know. James R. Avian Studios (we're for the birds) |

FWIW the current issue of Sound on Sound has a review of many ribbon mics.
