SSL 4056G convert to outboard?

I have a 48-channel-SSL SL-4056G+ w/ultimation and moving fader

I no longer have the space to accommodate it ... u know...a/c machine room, etc...

I was thinking of selling it or taking the modules apart and rack them up, as i still would like to use the EQ and comp for my current summing box mixing setup...

If wanting to rack it, any suggestions for shops to do the jobs and anyone know the rough prices? And is it really troublesome to take it part?

Besides, anyone know the 2nd-hand prices for such items..

Thx for any advice in advance....

Gutting it (even part way) is going to kill your resale value. Why not just sell it as is and then use the money to buy some of the SSL Xlogic E Signature channel strips?

Just give it to me and I'll trade you a pair of X-Logic E Signature Channels.

But seriously, it will cost you a ton of money to rack those modules. Just sell it as a console and buy an X-rack or some of their channel strips from the X Logic line.

It is really easy to take apart a SSL4000/6000/8000/9000. But racking 4000 EQ and Comps are not easy !!!!! That is a heck of a job !!!
If you are going to get a tech do that it will not be cheap, because it's a lot of job !

I think it's better selling the board, and get a Xlogic rack. That would probably be cheaper (at least more easy !!!)

If you are going to cut it up. Let me now, I would be intrested in some cards in the centersection !!

if you must taxidermy it, try paul cox in l.a.....maybe just take a buckets worth of channels out and just do that and than sell the rest...

i agree that the rest of it, busses psu, et al is worth more than the sum its parts...

Thanks for all the advice and interest. But the console is in Asia. And my collegue had contacted Peter Duncan in England. I think he is sending a tech over to take the console apart..... and ship back to england...

FWIW, it's been my experience with used SSL's that you want to ship them "modules in" unless you're planning on removing the legs, crating the frame separately, the modules separately, and the legs, power supplies, computer, etc. separately.

If you build a crate that has center support for the desk and ship it "modules in" you will save yourself a hell of a lot of money and aggrevation. From there you can have a second crate [or borrow, rent or buy a like 16 RU road case] for the power supplies, switching units, computer, disk drives, etc.

Best of luck with it!!
