Quad-8 Orphan Audio

A close friend of mine highly recomended that I get the Quad Eight EQ 333c & MP-227 Modular Rack System over APi, Great River, and Rupert Neves Portico. Does anyone have these in their pre-amp arsenal and are the a better choice then the fine products by Great River, APi and Rupert Neve? Here is the link to Orphan Audio who builds and sell them.

Well I can only speak of the 444x eqs which (if I am not mistaken) are in essence a 4 band version of the 333's. I would also assume ,again I could be wrong, that the preamp is close if not virtually identical to that found in the Pacifica and Coronado consoles and thus is basically what you get with the new A designs pre. Now assuming that is all true and I am not high on glue. I own 10 channels of the 444s and would put them up against basically anything. So much so that I plan to build a console around them sometime in the next 100 years. I absolutely love them. As far as the preamp goes we also just purchased 4 pacifica pres pulled from a console in my experience they are a fantastic pre super useable musical and punchy. APIish I think would be a safe bet. I have also had some conversations with Ken the owner of Orphan Audio and he is a super nice and very informed and helpful person. In my opinion you can't go wrong with any of the Quad Eight stuff from this time period. The earlier discrete stuff is clearly gaining popularity and I can't imagine this stuff not going to go the same way as more people hear them. Now that being said haha The Great River is totally amazing and API goes without saying. I have no experience with the Portico stuff. Sorry for such a long post I just love this stuff and get excited when people ask questions about them. Goodluck and keep us posted

I have two Q8 MM310B's from the Motown Sunrise console and they totally rock.

Much broader EQ than the 333 but the Q8 flavor rules!
Ken did an amazing job of racking them up as well. Great guy.

I'm adding a pair of the 333 eq's soon for sure.

So it sounds like that purchasing any of the mentioned are excellent choices. This will be my first pre/eq strip and wanted to be sure I was getting the best for my money. Do many of you use various mic pres?

We've got (14) Q8 MM61 modules here, and I have to say that they are utterly awsome. Good for anything and everything in my book. There will also be (2) MM405 modules here soon, can't wait to see what those sound like.

I haven't really A/B'd 'em against anything except what I've got at my disposal, which are the pre's in the Soundcraft Ghost, and the Langevin DVC. The Q8 obviously kills the ghost, and while the DVC sounds great, it doesn't even compare to the Q8's.

I have no experience with the modules you're talking about getting, but my gut instinct tells me you'll be very happy.
