Looking for my first outboard EQ!

My situation - I do mostly electronic w/ a female vocalist (not necessarily dance oriented though) and am looking to grow my outboard collection. I'm looking for a great foundational EQ - preferably dual mono. I don't want to spend more than 2500$ for two channels and I'd like to keep both channels the same type so I can EQ a stereo bus or main mix.

skipping over the small but respectable synth collection, I have:

Logic Pro 8
MOTU HD 192 converters
A Designs Pacifica preamp
Drawmer 1968 Mercenary Edition compressor
Kurzweil KSP8
Pearlman TM1 mic
Shure sm7b mic

I want something with character - not interested in hardware that can be essentially duplicated with plugins. So far I'm looking at

2 x Neve Portico 5033
A Designs HM2EQ
API 5500

Suggestions?

Thanks.

I've heard the 5500 a couple times and it can do a lot of things.

I believe that Great River has a two channel EQ based on Neve 1081's. I don't know the model#, but if it's anywhere close that would be something to consider.

Its a cool EQ for doing musical cuts. Its just not as inspiring when doing boosts.

Also its not colored, more on the clean side. Definitely not a 1081.

The A Designs Hammer definitely has some magical mojo happening and it seems to impart an excitement to tracks that I have yet to duplicate with any of my plugins (I've been trying). It's good for broad strokes and overall tone shaping. It doesn't do surgical at all if that's a concern.

I believe you are referring the the GR EQ-2NV. Retailing for 3500, I think it's out of my reach $ wise. I've read so many good things about it, but since I make no income from my music (at this point anyways), I'm really trying to stay at 2500 or under (US $). I am definitely a fan of used gear

I'm thinking that in my situation, surgical is probably best performed by plugins (but I could be wrong of course)
