Thread Starter | Abstract Descriptive Terminology Hey, wondering what the group thinks about this. I've heard it hardy har har har'd in this and other forums. It can obviously go overboard and mean absolutely nothing, people can also use it to hide the fact they can't hear, or don't know whats going on, or just want to sound super pretentious and deep. A dialog, with a house engineer at a studio: Him: "There's like a flakeyness in the top end with those" Me: "Oh really, how so?" Reasonable answer (my observation, not given): "it sounds like that pre isn't fast enough for the transients in the high mids" Bad answer (given): Him: "It's just kindof this crustyness the sound can't get out from under" I believe when used appropriately this a valuable and vital form of communication. Many consider engineering and art (that meets a science I know I know) IMHO if you get scoff when people talk about wanting a mix to sound like a shiny green lullaby you should possibly rethink your career...
