Anyone used the Bill Bradley (Mic Shop) MS-47?

I realize this will probably open up a can of worms, but just wondered if anyone had any experience with it. He seems to be VERY proud and confident in how it compares (or outperforms) to other U47 clones in it's class. He says it is basically an exact replica with a EF14...Now - let the flaming begin...

"The long awaited MicShop MS-47! This is a U-47 type mic that really performs like a U-47. The parts are correct - no Chinese crap here - the circuit is correct - no short cuts. It comes complete with box, shock mount, cable, Peak Power regulated power supply - all for just $4,700! If you want a mic that really sounds like a U-47 - here's your guy!!! A happy buyer says: "This mic is the best thing since sliced bread. It sounds identical to a U47, but its not 50 years old! You have no worries about making it through a session." Another customer said: "i love it - sold my wunder audio and pearlman mics because of it."

Chill, people, chill...I was just asking. I'm keeping the Wunder - I just had an interesting conversation with Bill Bradley and thought I would ask opinions. You'd think you guys sell stuff or something...

Oops...guess I should have searched first...there's a good bit of info about it on here. If anyone else has opinions, I'd love to hear it though.

"Too dark""?

How bright must a mic be?

I`ve been doing several vocal recordings with the Bradley today and I find it very well balanced tonaly. Deep and smooth with a nice presecence. In a very busy mix maybe it should be brighter.
The recordings I`v heard of the CM7 sounds nice too but reminds me more of the Gefell 92.1S I`ve got.
U87&UM70, now that`s kind of dark, but for screamers (hardcore, mean rock..) they always work

Bill does excellent work. He modified a U87 for me... It sounds freaking amazing. Regarding the U47 clones... He is very open about the work he does. He will open up his mics in front of you, and he will thoroughly explain how he created his clones. I am planning on buying one of his U47s. The real U47's are hard to come by, and most of the one's for sale sound lackluster at best (because of age, abuse, and etc....)

Regarding how well the U47 clones will perform... They sound very close to the classic U47's... I would argue they sound much better than many of the aging U47's one can find in major studios. Because the U47s are old mics, the sound variance can be great...

But, it all boils down to opinion... Nevertheless, he produces amazing mics that will not disappoint. His creations are second to none. Metallica and many of his other clients keep coming back.

Regarding Bill Bradley... I have found only one "true" negative review regarding Bill Bradley. This review was spread all over the web on different forums... However, it is one review, and the person has no evidence to support his claim. This person openly claims that he wants to hurt Bill's reputation. I will continue to buy from Bill with confidence. He is a mic guru, and he has been excellent to work with.

Bill has been my friend for many years. He is a true mic expert and a pro. Recently he built me a wonderful dual power supply for my Schoeps M221s. Fast and expert service with a pleasant attitude define this pro.

Seventeen years ago when I found out that BB outsourced most of his work to Tracy Korby, I contacted Tracy and began to send all of my work to Tracy. Not only did my repair bills get substantially cheaper, but the overall quality of the work increased dramatically. Why? Because BB wasn't doing ALL of the work. Back in the late 80's and early 90's he was about the only alternative to Gotham Audio, so there weren't many options. All BB supplies were made by Korby relabled and marked up. Nothing wrong with that, I guess. But check this out. Back in '93, I had a C24 with only one functioning capsule. BB and KH wanted over $2k, "when they could get to it, blah, blah, blah..." Korby fixed it for $800 including round-trip FedEx. That's been my experience.

What kind 87 mods are you talking about? Innertube or...? What LDC`s did you use, beside an original 47, that sounded closer to your taste?

You ask, "Who cares?"---
It's quite simple, sir. People who make their living with microphones, that's who.

As I was partners with d, the competitors were bb modd'ed 87s, a um57, a c24, a pair of fet 47s, km86s, and an rca 44 and a 77. And in most applications the competition REALLY stuck it to the ole MS47. The um57 just unabashedly took it out back and showed it the business, which can be had for much less $$$. The ms47 isn't awful, but in a world filled with choices it just doesn't stand up like it should to be a 4700 dollar mic.

It does sound great on overheads.

This has been an interesting read of mixed opinions...but that statement from a user with 2 posts is kind of suspect at best. You really should out yourself and give evidence if you really back your statement.
It is very curious how this type of post brings out the haters.

No experience with the BB mics, just an observation. tutt

Hi there, Please do us all a favour, I am sure that bill and yourself can work this out without dragging it into a crud file. Also you have shouted out and Named bill specifically, it would b only too fair if you were to also have an identity rather than just an Avatar.

cheers

As arrogant and pompous Plush can be, I would trust his words regarding those in the business everytime over some random anonymous posters pissing into threads.

Why should I tell you my name? bill knows exactly who I am and what I am talking about, and that's enough. What he did by having me send a check for an item I never received is outrageous and extremely unethical.
As to working it out with bill, tried that, been there. He is an arrogant and pompous person (as mentioned by the previous poster).
His answer to this dilemma=I decided I want more money (outrageous and extremely unethical, no?)
So I feel it my duty to send out a warning so that people watch out for this kind of behavior.

Hey man, don't sweat it.... we don't need to know your name dude, we'll just call you Tom or maybe dick or maybe even Harry. Who needs an identity? they are totally overated anyhow! Imagine a word with 6 billion inhabitants and only 2 kinds; man and woman.

It would play out like this;

Hi man, meet my woman. Wow your woman is a hotty. Yeah i know. How's your old man and old woman? Yeah they're great, how's your's? Yeah they're great too. I noticed that your little man keeps smiling at that other little woman.....etc etc

Life's pretty boring without identity Tom...

cheers

I gotta say... unethical or not, Bill Bradley has managed to amass so many negative reviews through out the years that even if a small percentage of them is true, its enough to turn a lot of people away. Myself included.

I see that after having his toxic and unsupported commentary removed from this thread by the moderator, the whining baby that posted junk about BB is back with more dirt.

He can't give up.

I am a person who actually knows and has worked with BB with mic purchases and also on recordings. He is a great engineer too. He always treated me right and proper.

Those who want to judge a person by what they read on an internet forum instead of what they think when they meet him are under the sway of garbagetalk as far as I'm concerned.

Why should we suffer this fool who writes a negative scree?

Who is the writer?

As Plush, I have dealt with Bill many times over the years, and never had a problem...

He has worked on my vintage Neumanns over the years, has built quite a few power supplies for me, and just basically did what was required.
Nothing more.

Actually one day I blew up one of his supplies, for my KM-256, so I called him all freaked out, he sent the parts out overnight, and had me call him the next morning, to talk me through the repair, step by step.

I'd say that was pretty good service.
Wouldn't you?
