I live in MA dude.
The real question should be, who are you? Bill's partner?
Easy enough to find out who I am.
I think I got my answer from your reaction. Cheers.

I thought I would share some of my email correspondence with Bill Bradley, for those who are interested in the inner workings of his MS-47. Again, Bill has been a straight-shooter and very nice guy. I have never had any issues with him. He has been very professional every time I have talked with him.

Below are some quotes from my email correspondence with Bill Bradley. I asked for him to explain the differences between his MS-U47 and the Telefunken (USA) U47.

"About the MS-47: We use a Neumann K-47 capsule, selected NOS Telefunken EF-14 tube, and a new custom made Haufe BV-8 from Germany. That is basically the core of our microphone. We prefer the sound of the K-47 to the Slovakian made M-7's used in the "Telefunken" mics even though the K-47 costs considerably more. Our EF-14 amplifier uses a proprietary biasing circuit that is used ONLY by the Mic Shop. The "Telefunken" VF-14k is actually a very cheap small glass tube shoe horned into a metal shell made to look like a VF-14."

"The Haufe BV-8 we use is of superior quality to the Oliver Archut BV-8 used by "Telefunken." The core material of the Haufe is the correct nickel and iron alloy. All other components are of the highest quality. Resistors used are custom Dale and PRP metal film and Riken Ohm carbon film. Capacitors are made by Roederstein. All wire is Teflon insulated stranded silver. The cable we use is Mogami 3172 Tube Microphone cable which we prefer to the Gotham cable. The Peak Power PSU that we build is arguably the finest PSU available on the planet! It is WAY overbuilt and we have more than 1,000 of them throughout the world. The body parts we use are made by the same company that supplies both "Telefunken" and Wunder."

Yes, it's tough to avoid. Even tougher to ignore.

My personal dealings were highly unsatisfactory, repeatedly.

Those who've had great service speak only for themselves, just as those who've had poor results. I doubt either side is lying. But it's impossible not to notice that whenever a BB thread comes up there's an abnormal amount of negativity.

Bill Bradley?

You mean... BILL BRASKY?!?

On a serious note though, I'd be interested in trying one out at some point. I just did a jazz session yesterday and we had the opportunity to use a pair of Wagner 47's, and I pretty much fell in love. THOSE sounded fantastic, and I usually haven't been impressed with most 47 clones.

Bill is entitled to his opinion. But to set some facts straight, AMI supplies BV8's to Bock, Lucas, Wagner, Wunder and several custom mic builders.

Having the original Braunbuch specs for the section wound version of the BV8 transformer (the Haufe is the earlier mantle wound version) AMI also uses the correct lamination alloy for their transformers.

Sincerely,

Joe Hauck

There are those that know... and those who don't

First of all I am a satisfied customer BB and have been for over 10 years .

He says what he means and backs it up .

He has always been honest and a good person to trade with , period !

As for any clone mic ever made , Well , they are CLONES !!

If you want the real thing then BUY ONE !!

My best mics ever were bought from BB and that's a fact !

I have done many mic comparisons myself and I know that every mic sounds different , even the vintage U47's , 49's , c12's , 251's , so if they all sound different , which one is the standard for each kind ?
Answer : There is no set standard and the variables make it imposable to establish one.

I own clones and I also own the real thing , It's up to me to choose the right tool for the job . I don't own any crappy mic's , so it's just selecting the one I think works best .

Bill is very good at his job and has always been helpful to me .

What does that mean exactly?

Who are the people that "know" and who are those that don't? And what exactly is the thing that they know? Or do not know?

I want to chime in, too, on behalf of Bill. I bought a few mics from him when I was putting my studio together about 12 years ago, and got a really sweet pair of M-582's, along with one of his (first generation, I think) power supplies. He has a beautiful place down here, and he gave me the grand tour. He was quite the gentleman, and I have never had cause to be anything but thrilled with the microphones I bought from him.
