Thread Starter | Advice on possible Pre replacement please?
OK, I guess I have G.A.S. again. Like a pregnant woman, the contractions come in waves. I am thinking of selling my Langevin DVC to fund a different preamp. I have a Hardy M-1 2 channel, and I will never part with that. I guess I want a higher gain 1 or 2 channel tube preamp. Dont get me wrong, I really like the DVC, but I am thinking of a SuPre, ADL 600, or a 6176 (maybe LA-610). The higher gain thang is really reeling me in right now. I'm liking ribbons and condensers more lately. I have mics that I am happy with. I usually only record individual artists-vocal groups-acoustic players, and percussion. Maybe I shouldn't even be looking? lil help? |

Stick with the Hardy. You don't need high gain with condensors, and good ribbons will be fine with the gain in the Hardy. |

Don't sell the Langevin. I did - I thought I would be fine without it...I was wrong. For the extra gain on ribbons, make it up in digital if necessary. (What are you recording with the ribbons that it doesn't have enough gain?? Cricket farts? I mean, I know it falls a good 15 dB shy of the Hardy, but unless it's string ensembles all the time - which would not really be the forte of this pre anyway - do you really need it?) |
