Wow.. sounds great.thumbsup
The new Telefunken is a little more defined, has more air and less nasality then the Neumann. Tube buzz sounds sweeter.
But it hasn't got the same dark chocolate quality as the Neumann.
Overall I'd say I'd buy the Telefunken in favor of the Neumann unless it's one of those occations that the Neumann just 'clicks' with a particular voice.

I spent some time this afternoon rifling thru all the 47 tracks and man the Tele is sweet. It's so rich and 3D.

Based on listening to these samples (of really great sound and musical quality), I clearly prefer Telefunken - more detailed and open it sounds to me ... U47 is a bit "veiled" comparing to it ...
(my enthusiasm was then cooled down a bit when I saw the Telefunken price ... )

Which tube, capsule and transformer in the vintage U47? Original VF14M, K47 and BV8?

MA5 - TeleUSA AK47 (female) sounds great, unbelivable tests!,
However, you may want to repost your shootout in 320kpbs WMA or other higher res codec... It is a shame to have $100k of microphones to be sounding like something I bought at radio shack...

It is unbelivable that we can still se such a difference eventhough the compression codec is so poor

I think Tele USA's site was very recently updated...the price is there.
I thought the u47 AE was pretty damn good - I think it would be great if James can post 2 bwavs of the Neumann 47 and Tele so we can really get inside them.
FWIW - it's a damn shame about the U87ai. I thought it sounded outstanding until hit with the higher SPL's later on in the song - where it kind of fell apart, seemed to get too strident. The usual problem anyhow...

My mistake, I looked at the "Platinum Series" U47V which lists at $9495.00.
So my guess would be the AE to be a little cheaper actually. Das good |

The price of the U 47AE is $8,495.00. What that converts to in Euros, I have no idea, but I think that they are pretty close.

I prefer the Neumann U47 here. It's much smoother.

| With a current dollar rate of 1Euro = ~1,46Dollars someone (digitalaudioservice.de) is earning big money for nothing here...tutt
Should be more around 6000 Euros I think.
For the extra 2500€ one could make a nice trip to the US, demo and buy the mic there and still have some money left for shipping in case of warranty repairs.
Or am I entirely wrong here?
Even if you consider customs and import sales tax it should be significantly less.

It also happens in the opposite direction - like Magix: Samplitude costs 1000 EUR in Germany and 1000 USD in the US, which is 50 percent less than in Germany where it is manufactured ...

Most Euro prices for US made gear are 1:1.
While it should be more like 1:0.7
And you're right, at a certain price it's cheaper to fly to LA or New York, have dinner (on you) with the designer of the boutique gear you're buying, have a field day in their studio and return to europe the next day. |

I don´t want to defend anybody´s pricing but you guys should be fair (or know what you are talking about) when you compare these prices:
$8495 excludes VAT, €8495 includes VAT (19%) which equals € 7138 net. Unless you are a hobbyist that´s what you pay. Now add 3% to the American price for customs and the fee for insured shipping. It´s still a lot less but no where near the initial difference of €2500. Also I am sure some heavy bargaining would be possible due to the actual exchange rate. These dealers don´t change prices in their webshops everyday accordingly to the exchange rate. Just give them a call and I am sure they´d give you a serious discount. Now if you buy stuff like this in a web shop without bargaining... it´s your own fault |

I really like the 251. The U47/tele47 was great too. The U87 didn´t sound as smooth. It´s really great with these tests, even though i just bought a U87ai for a main vocal mic, but at least now i know the difference. Thanks
