 | Microtech Geffell M300 uses? Hey, everyone. I just finished up recording a few tunes for multi-instrumentalist Tony Furtado, and on a whim I grabbed the studio's Microtech Geffell's M300 pair (mics with which I'm inexperienced) for the close mic'ing of his many acoustic guitars. The results were great on all his instruments! So I've been wondering, what are some other uses you guys have found for those things? They struck me as forward and aggressive, with excellent transient respones and insane detail, so I've been thinking snares, room mics, and maybe even overheads...

| I've always use them as Overheads on drum kit, on my upright piano (I mic the back), often on acoustic guitars, sometimes along with sm57 or a large condencer, depends where I'm going with it.. I've also used them as room mics on a brass section, also on a string quartet. I've done harp recordings with them, and used them on woodwinds. Yesterday I even used one on male vocalist for a techno song. I love my M300s. It has happened that they were to detailed for their subject but usually they are spot on for the project. Kalli |

| So do I .... had a session recently .... sort of jazz / folk .... I put up two Coles 4038's as OH ... I thought the sound was groovy ... but the drummer said " the delicacy of my cymbal work is being lost ... " he was right ... the cymbals were kind of diffuse sounding ... so I put up the M300's ... bingo .... vibe & definition ... just lovely ... |

| snare drum here. pointing straight at the middle of the shell at least 6" away, poking up over the bass drum (only really feasible if you're dealing with 2 toms or less). lovely dynamic, punchy sound. bright but in a nice "present" kinda way. it takes eq well, if any is needed.
