| Metric Halo Clocking Issues Upgraded from my MOTU 896 to a Metric Halo 2882. Pre's and analog outs (which go to a Folcrom) are way better on the MH but I'm having clocking problems. The MOTU was solid clocked to my Lavry Blue AD/DA via AES and an Apogee Rosetta 800 via ADAT. The MH seems to clock when it wants to. I've tried it clocked via ADAT, AES and WC and it seems to work best with ADAT but it's not consistent. I have to unplug the MH and restart it until it locks. The software shows it's locking but I get that digital buzz. Anyone else having MH clocking problems? |

| Thanks! Yes I contacted MH and they got right back to me. When it locks it's great but every once in about 5 times it goes out and the MIO still shows it's locked. They have a new card coming out which improves the ADAT stability which indicates to me that they had some problems in the past. I'll try that in a couple of weeks when it comes out and see... |

| I don't know if this is constructive help or not here but... I have a 2882+DSP that I'm still loving. Years ago I tried using the ADAT I/O to various devices with not much success. Everything else played nicely. The final word at the time was that yes it is very finicky with ADAT clock. No resolution to the problem. It seemed the trade off for the 2882's internal clocking that makes the unit sound so nice is that it doesn't resolve well to such a sloppy sync standard as ADAT lightpipe. The fix would adversely affect the 2882's sound. That was a couple years ago. Supposedly there were some firmware revs that was supposed to help but I did away with all external ADAT devices before then. Good luck. Definitely go to MH support or the mailing list with your problem. Someone will set it straight or clear it up.

| I have experienced the same problem when slaving the 2882 to ADAT. Luckily it doesn't loose clock every five minutes. Hopefully the new card will turn a very good product into an exceptional one.

| I've had some issues with it being the master too. The Lavry doesn't seem to lock via AES to the MH and I think the Lavry has a pretty solid clock in it. I like the MH and I think it sounds great but my opinion is that the clock needs improvement. My MOTU 896 worked solid in this setup and that clock is not well respected. |

| Hey Ricardo. It stays locked once it's locked but sometimes if I restart the computer or change sample rates it just goes out and i have to restart |

| Pretty typical. I have the same issue here when slaving clock from the HEDD. Try resetting with not only the MH console, but with audiomidi control panel as well. When all else fails reset all MH outputs, or power cycle it from thr MH console |

| I'll try that. This seems like MH's dirty little secret. Everyone raves about the sound quality, which is certainly true, but the clocking needs some work. Maybe their new card will help. |

| I rarely have any clocking issues. I have three MH units. Adat is finicky though. AES has ALWAYS been rock solid for me. I used to record shows with two MIOs and using Adat to get another 8 in with a Motu 2408mkII. At first there were issues, but I'd say the last 10 or so shows I did like that were smooth as silk. I can't remember what we did. You have the latest formware, software? Sometimes a trick is to unplug the unit from the FW and power, to power cycle, for a good 5 minutes, or more. It takes a minute to recycle/reset.
