Thread Starter | Feeding a v72 into a v72? Is it safe?
I have the TAB/Funkenwerk v72s pair and I want to try going into one channel and then routing that output into the second channel but I am hesitant because I don't want to destroy them. Have anyone tried this? Is it safe to do? If so, would I be able to crank the first channel or would that be too much? |

I haven't tried daisy-chaining preamps, but it wouldn't hurt to check with Oliver @ TAB before doing so. | |

It depends on how much extra gain you require... It has been a few years since I have seen the TAB-funkenwerks V-72 so I don't recall if it has a gain control or if it's fixed at 34db of gain like an original V-72. Sometimes with things like V-72's you can indeed use another gain stage in the signal path... I have used 2x TAB-funkenwerks V-78M's in series at times when I've required more gain from my V-78M without issue. Bottom line is that you can try daisy chaining the channels of your V-72's without a struggle. You won't damage anything if you do... you might get a high level of distortion or you might not like the sound [or it could be a gift from heaven for all I know]... but you certainly won't hurt anything in the trial process. Best of luck with it. Peace.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not looking for extra gain really, I want to overload the hell out of a channel to see if I like the sound. That's why I am asking, I want to get extreme but don't want to trash the pres. It took a LONG time to score one of these so I don't want to take them out in one foolish experiment. Oh, and the gain is variable, Fletcher. |
