i'm wondering if anyone has noticed the noise floor of the auroras when using 192khz and found it to be a problem. i've read that it's outside the audible range but i'm not so sure this is as black and white as it seems. a/b comparisons i've done have always ended with me feeling like there is more energy up higher. it's never been an issue really. but recently i was doing some reamping and noticed the noise floor creeping in. (i had bucket loads of gain) i went looking for the source. and it's the lynx. the floor of the mixer/converters sits around -105 or so at 96khz. at 192khz it's -66 or so. is this the default situation the onboard lynx mathematics creates or do i have another issue?

hmm, i don't ever recall noticing it before, maybe it's something new, i'm not sure. i can't help but feel it may have crept in after a driver upgrade... but that could be my imagination. i stumbled onto a thread on gear slutz that talked about it. other than that i'm not sure. |

| You don't need input from the forum. You need to contact Lynx tech support and get it resolved. Odds are, assuming you have everything hooked up correctly, you're going to need hardware service. JSL

gouge, it's not so black and white as to using higher rates as a defacto and all is well. There are trade-offs using high sampling rates. (Some argue the benefits are not even that beneficial). The higher rate you work at, the harder you are making the system work inducing noise, possible errors, etc...Anyway check out Dan Lavry white papers.

I'm thinking of adding my old motu 828mk2 in use with my actual rig, which is :Aurora 16 with LT-HD and Pro Tools HD. I would like to use the 828 as a standalone converter and mainly for the hardware inserts. The i/o would be provided by the AES i/o that i have left unused, around 12 if my memory is right. Would that be possible, with some kind of converter in the middle, to use the AES outs of the Aurora to the ADAT in of the 828 ? Anyone already doing this ? |

Second, there are AES/EBU-ADAT converters, and they work fine, they're just a bit expensive. The RME ADI-4DD is one, the Alesis AI-4 is another. I think you might do better to dig around for a pure converter that uses AES/EBU. At the risk of being cheesy, there's a WZ-DA96 on eBay right now, and I've got a WZ-AD96 to sell .... JSL | |

yes, and some would argue it's a step backwards but that's not really the debate i was hoping to start. so on that note, if either of you kind gentlemen could flick your lynx converters to 192khz and let me know what level your noise floor is at then that would be of great benefit. |
