DSD DAW for Mac OSX

Is there a multichannel DSD Application for Mac like Pyramix or Sadie on the Windows side?

I did use the search function but could not find a real answer. Found only format converter apps for PCM to DSD and cannot believe there is nothing like Pyramix DSD for Mac.

Not that I know of, and I have been looking.
There have been several abandoned DSD projects.
TOO BAD.
Every time I have listened to a DSD recording (classical mainly) it completely blows me away.

I will do a little dsd hunting at AES.

Why does it have to be on a MAC? A computer is only a tool.

Perhaps people have their studios built around a certain platform?

I'd like a Mac DSD option as well. I've got an XP box too but I don't use it for music and don't intend to.

Yeah, I think the only 2 now for DSD are the Pyramix and Sonoma system. I think SADiE abandonned their DSD rig.
Dennis, can Pyramix be run with Boot Camp? I know you have the new X-boards.

Regards,
Bruce

Hmmm, what a pitty, no DSD for Mac …

I have 3 Macs in my studio with enough power. Purchasing another computer only for Windows is no real option for me. So i think Boot Camp together with Pyramix could be a solution without spending extra money for another computer.

Like to hear any reports about Pyramix and Bott Camp, too.

At the moment in version 5.1, Pyramix Native works under Boot Camp. Tests have been done with a Mac Pro and a Mykerinos X30 (PCI-e) running Pyramix under Boot Camp. There has been many problems with this setup and at the moment it "offically" doesn't work.

I think that because the Windows OS is riddled with too many problems like IRQ, registry, driver problems, virus attacks, etc., Mac does handle things better overall as long as the applications are written properly using the Cocoa development software environment. I am surprised people even consider the PC. Apogee recently abandoned Windows altogether. yes, a computer is a tool, but Windows is more of a hobby trying to catch up to Apple.

Boot Camp just allows a Mac to run windows and Windows based applications on a Mac. Most applications will run just fine with windows on a Mac running in the Boot Camp environment. Think of boot camp as a way to have windows PC and Mac OS on one box rather than two separate computers.

I am surprised Protools and Logic don't support DSD.

The Prism ADA8XR, can be outfitted with both a DSD I/O module, and a Pro Tools HD I/O module, and allows DSD audio sources and destinations to be connected to the Pro Tools workstation directly.

And then you do what? PT can´t handle DSD neither DXD, so you´ll never be able to record or reproduce those formats in PT.

Ok, this is very curious. So, if you record Direct Stream into an outboard, such as the Tascam DVRA1000hd, and you wish to take those recordings back into your Mac.... What can you use?

I use AudioGate to manage my DSD files from the Tascam, and just go direct from the Tascam to the Mac via USB.

No dsd playback except from the recorder or through dsd converters. No editing of dsd either.

You CAN make a dsd disc and play it on some discontinued Sony DVD players. You CAN play it on a Sony game console.

Most take it out to analog and recapture

The Tascam records DSD from two distinct inputs: analogue inputs or Raw DSD on BNC connectors, in other words SDIF.

To use these last ones, you need to have an audio card or source device that has the same I/O.

As most people do not have those, they feed the recorder using it´s analogue inputs and let the internal converters do the job of recording a DSD stream into a DVD disk or in HD, depending on the Tascam model.

In order to use such a file in Protools or other DAW´s that do not support DSD 1 bit format, you need to convert these DSIFF file to PCM first, either by using an appropriate software converter like the Korg´s Audiogate(that comes bundled with their DSD decks) or Weiss Saracon or indeed using the analogue outs of either machine to replay the file and capture again in the analogue domain to the DAW, via it´s analogue/digital converters. This is obviously not the same of using the original DSD file in a DAW that supports it, like the Merging Pyramix.
