Thread Starter | Wagner U47w vs Wunder CM7
Has anyone here been able to do a direct A/B comparison of the Wagner U47w and Wunder CM7 mics? I've been searching this forum for ages but have been unable to find a comparison by the same person(s). I'm currently saving up and am really torn between getting the Wagner (waiting time ~ 7 months) or the Wunder (saving up time a month or three). Price seems to be approximately the same in the EU. Thanks in advance! |

It is not easy to have all mics for direct comparison, but as owner of Wagner 47, using pair for some time I believe it's same original U47's sound as close as it might be. Wunder is way more often mentioned here due to several reasons: -comparatively less expensive -it can be easily found by several dealers for trial -it is US manufactured mic what might be equal to easier manufacturer's support IMO Wagner is sonically equal to any best sounding original u47. Wunder might be better than best sounding original u47 , but really don't need to try it as Wagner resolved all my quests in search for u47 magic.

Haven't tried one myself (yet) - but I heard great recordings of both and ordered Wagner. Wagner is technically more original and I absolutely trust Gunter when it comes to a U47. GYang, I thought you used both and the Wagner was slightly cleaner, the Wunder having its own nuance?

| Me, as well as, one of trusted engineers who works here used it couple of times as clients brought mic with themselves. Although it might be matter of personal preference and taste, Wunder wasn't chosen over Wagner (as well as one vintage U47 that we hed on trial in same time). In lack of appropriate description when very high end gears are compared, slightly finer (or more pleasant) resolution in top end might be what we liked more on Wagner.

I'd love to see Lawson's M47 compared with these hot --and more expensive-- mics. For those who can't afford the hotrods, Lawson looks like a great way to go.

There is CM7 (not GT) listed on Ebay right now for anyone interested. It is not mine and I know nothing about the seller but thought I would mention it as I stumbled across it. Closes on Sept. 24th.

The only comparison is that the CM7 is available now, and the Wagner will wait list you for a year or more. Unless you can find a used Wagner. Think I've seen one once or twice here on GS. IMO the Wagner just about may not exist. It sounds awesome surely, and there's lots of hype about it, but what good is product that you can't get, if you really need something like it? |

I have also found the auction for the Wunder CM7. I am wondering if this is the original Power Supply which is delivered with the mic??? Because i noticed that it is the same power supply which is used with the Peluso mics (is says something like MX 56 on top of the PSU). Only differnce seems that at the Wunder PSU the polar pattern knob is detached because you switch patterns at the grill. Maybe someone knows because the Wunder mic is 3,5 times the price of the Peluso. I found the Peluso Power supply kind of cheap looking, kind of flabby in manufacture. Would be nice to know. |

By the way, in the follwing thread you can find samples where the Lawson L47 is compared to the Wunder CM7. ******//www.gearslutz.com/board/high-...-shootout.html Maybe someone has first hand experience and can post some comments. Would be nice to hear the Wunder CM7 side by side with the Wagner. At last it would be very interessting how the Lawson L47 stands up against these nice mics. |

I, too, would like to hear from those who have heard the Lawson vs it's higher-priced brothers.

| CM7 PSU
I wanted to post a photo of the New CM7 NG PSU. The second photo is of an old U47 NG PSU. It is all handmade in the USA. It's very nice because we are able to adjust the voltages to precisely match the tube in each mic. I also added a photo of the matching badge in the rear bottom of the mic. |

Compared to the high-end custom guitars (Olson, Thorn etc.) 1+ year seems reasonable. I gave my mics for several comparisons (mainly with originals) and it never received less than amazing comments and raves (incl. from owners of real vintage U47s). Some of them even ordered the mic instantly to get it while available. Still, I agree that calling your dealer and getting mic for trial is convenient and strong selling point for Wunder. | |

Yes, I agree... I wouldn't see a Wagner as something I buy when I absolutely need it RIGHT NOW. I see it as something that you order and wait for and then enjoy for the rest of your life probably. Like GYang said - I've been through this with custom guitars, too. There is a waiting list, depending on the manufacturing capabilites of the company in question. If you want it, order it and wait for it, but why complain about the fact that you gotta wait for it? Gunter Wagner isn't an industry-type manufacturer with large quantities, he loves doing what he does. That's how I see his mics. If you desperately need a 47-style mic here and now, then you'll probably have to get a Wunder. |
