i'd be willing to shell out some good money for a vintage neve 1073 but for a 1272 i would just get a good clone instead. they are half the cost of the one offered to you, and probably more reliable and with less noise. (vintech has a nice one).

i am very familiar with the 1073 and was recently researching the 1272 myself, and this is the opinion i have after doing my looking around, asking questions, and listening to gear.

Sound of the 1272 is nothing to write home about imo, but the eq and hi-pass comes in handy with 1073.

Hi,

Get the Vintech dual72 Neve 1272 clone. I love mine and got it on Ebay used for $950.00. I gets big when driven.

My fav for rock vocals, guitars and snare mic'd from the side. sounds great for toms too. Gets that bigger than life sound. They are built well and resale is great on all Vintech stuff so buy with confidence.

Some more info please. Is it racked? Re-capped? Just the one channel?

Sounds a bit expensive to me !

I have 8 x 1272s. I added Joe Malones gain stage to four of them and had Blake Devitt turn the other four into his special "Faster" less gain version.

I love these pres but took much love and attention to get them sounding like they do, and even then, they are a bit noisier than I would like.

Since getting 8 x 1084s, sadly, they don't get half the use they used to :(

For the asking price you quote, you'd almost get Geoff Tanners GTQ. This will give you two channels with EQ, DI input etc.

Its not a 1073 (Some say much better !) but I've heard nothing but good reports.

You certainly ain't getting a deal ! A deal is finding a few in a rack that were used for the original intention, that is a line driver ! But then you gotta convert them over yourself. Great fun but not for the dim!

You are basically paying top dollar for the fact that someone has taken care of this work for you.

Heres some other options clsoe to what you are looking for.

There's a pair of original 1272's racked by Brent Averill for sale for $1500 at the classifieds section. Take a look. Sounds like a good deal.

Get BAs for $1600

Yeah $2200 is way high, you can get Brent Averill racked originals for about $1500 and his remakes a bit more new but they are fantastic. I use those pres everyday, very good and I don't need the eq on a 1073. As far as I know the preamp is the same anyway. Get the Brent Averill ones, they are the best repros available, and a great company to deal with. They stand behind their stuff and it sounds great.

We have a pair of 1272's, real ones racked by Marquette. Paid a little more than 2200 and totally worth it. They are great.

You never have to think about getting the "real thing" when you have Neves.
