popping sounds from my hd rig

after a month of construction and moving i finally got some tracking done in my new studio. anyway, using an g4, HD1 system with a uad-1 card PT started producing some random popping sounds...it almost sounded like spitting mixed with a dirty pot. does anyone know what this might be...i'd really like to get this taken care of quickly and easily (knock on wood) considering the time away from work. the session was really light too...only 6 tracks running at 88.1/24.

Are you saying the HD rig is new? or has it worked perfectly in the past?

The first thing I'd do is eliminate the uad card, re-seat your HD Core, re-seat your RAM, trash your prefs, check all your cables, create a new session, import the tracks from the session that gave you trouble and see what happens.

If there're no problems, install the uad card. see what happens.

Unfortunately, there're so many variables these days it's hard to pinpoint a solution.

Pops and clicks usually means a 'clock' problem, but a spitting sound, who knows.

Is it random or always at the same spot on the the same audio file? on all audio files?

anyway good luck, welcome to ProTools, start honing your trouble shooting chops.

What does your system consist of? A/D/A, clock, desk or control surface? Was it doing this on input, output, or both?

The reason I ask is the first thing that comes to mind is a clocking issue.

dang, someone beat me to it. now i feel stupid

thanks guys

the entire system was bought used. but ive been using it for the last 6 months and have never had a problem. ill check the prefs...

when you say trash the prefs....you literally mean put the PT pref folder in the trash?

theres no external clock...normally im mixing into my soundcraft 3b but for this session i was ITB. also, the popping sound was random.
