anyone use a cranesong spider?

i'm just curious if anyone has taken a spider and strapped on a bunch of sick outboards like ssl channel strips, millenia origins, varimus, stc-8s. and then summed analog stems into it..... anyone? bueller?....anyone?

it's funny, but at $7000 list, it's still a great "value" because you get 8 quality preamps which must be worth something.. plus you get a stereo a-d and an 8 channel a-d. and if those a-d's kick butt... well you could easily drop $3500 on some lavrys. so if the pres are worth $1500 and the conversion is worth $3500. then it's really like you're paying $2000 for the actual summing/hardware. and that's not expensive for cranesong quality.

just my wacky thinking...

Yeah... from time to time I have used other pre's with my Spider... but not all that often. The pre's in the Spider are great... I only patch in a different pre when I'm looking for a radically different texture... like a Chandler TG-2 or something... other than that, I find the Spider to be a great tool as it sits.

I was so close to getting a Spider but I couldn`t figure out how to make the last 3 grand happen so I had to jump on another deal instead.

That thing is indeed the best value in the high end audio world right now and sometimes I wish I had held out a little longer for it.
