Mixing desk & recording database - [Which songs/albums were mixed on what desk]

Hi,

It would be great if we could start a database for every commercially released song or album that we know for sure was mixed on a certain console/s.
I suppose `classic` or well known tracks would be a better read and would make the list more managable but lesser known artists/tracks would also be interesting.

After a while I or maybe someone with better web skills could start to draw up a table of the whole thing. Here`s a list of what we could include:

1. Desk, could include summing boxes as well
2. Studio it was recrded in, put private if it wasn`t in a commercial place or unknown
3. Artist
4. Song name
5. Which format recorded on to, if known + on what recording device
6. Brief proof comment of how you know this information e.g `because I mixed it ! `, or you`re the artist or maybe you read it in the credits etc
7. Other useful comments including any other desks or summers used, side cars + useful web links relating to your post.

What do you think ?

I would personally find it VERY interesting.
If you have better ideas of what to put in the list please feel free to speak up but maybe at the same time keep putting desk info in at the same time so the thread doesn`t stagnate.
I`d like the emphasis to be on desks, If you don`t know the other information leave it blank, maybe someone else can fill it in.

I`ll start it off:

1.Desk - Helios 24 channel
2.Studio - Strawberry studios
3.Artist -10cc,
4.Song - I`m not in love
5.Format -tape. 16 track Studer
6.Proof - Sound on Sound article
7.Comment - Dick Swettenham designed desk,624 vocal overdubs!
Link - CLASSIC TRACKS: 10cc 'I'm Not In Love'

It would be great if this is a success, I`d love to look up a desk and see all the songs that used it.
Si.

Yeah, its called album credits. Then you would usually google the studio, engineer, producer.

This is a bad thread. Stop trolling.

Eh! that`s so upsetting took me ages to write all that out and I was really excited and then you go and post that thoughtless reply!

Ok I`ll stay calm BUT album credits don`t always say which studio something was recorded in and even if they did it would be good to have all the info in one place that eventually could turn into a wiki page or something+ gather extra useful info.
Almost all of my records/cds dont have any studio information anyway so is this still a bad thread or is your reply bad, you stop replying thoughtlessly!

And another thing even if the studio it was recorded in is still in business, they quite likely wont have the same desk/equipment/staff/owners anyway numb nuts.

Actually, its a very good idea, because I've never seen a cohesive database of this information.

How many times have you heard "ohhh such and such was done at blah blah studios, they had a Neve". But in reality, the album/track/artist you were referring to recorded at that studio before they had a Neve console.

Another approach would be database listing of studios, year, console. That way you could cross-reference with the year the album was recorded.

Remember though... the gear doesn't matter!!!
(a very un-gearslutz-like thing to say)

Cool

Actually Billboard Magazine previously had a section('Studio Action') that listed all of these details. But, since Pro Tools|HD came out, so many records have been recorded, &/or mixed in Pro Tools|HD that they might have decided to cease printing that info. since the reporting was becoming redudant(Pro Tools|HD becoming used seemingly for everything).

No, just a realist who likes to spend time with my woman and not worry about abstract and mundane things such as this post. Sorry I even commented.

Go ahead, spend oodles of hours on this project, I got music to mix and record.

I think this is a great idea. I'd be happy to host this on our website once a list is well compiled. We can add to it as time goes on (more songs, session notes, etc.).

No, actually, you are negative.
If you didn't want to be bothered about it, and spend time with your "woman", you wouldn't have wasted your time posting about how you thought that it was a waste of time posting about it...

You just graduated from negative to passive aggressive.

You might think that this post is a waste of time for you. That's fine. Don't offer up your opinion about how useless it is for you. That is useless behavior for everyone else here.
