NEVE FREAKS PLEASE HELP!

I have come across an old 12 channel neve side car, if anyone knows where I can find more information on sidecars, such as a neve archive or something along the lines of that please do not hesitate to reply.

I named one of my kids after RN, does that make me a Neve freak???

Well, what kind of modules does it have? Thats usually a good starting point.

the v51 is the post rupert V-series broadcast board. If it is in great shape, v-series are real nice, but you enter switch hell, they all break and were custom made, so no replacements. youll have to beg for them from someone.

preamps can be great, transformer seems to roll off low end with certain impeadance loads. EQ is limited (2 bands and not parametric.) compressors (if it has them) limited (fast/ slow attack swtiches, not sweepable). routing limited (4 or 8 buss).

that's the bad news. the good news? in good shape, this board will kill anything other than another neve or api or ssl etc.

so this is just the channel bank? right? no master section?

youre lucky, each bank has its own mix amps and such, so there will be a thick ribbon cable that comes off the rear vertical board under the meters. all the mix busses are there. you just have to find them. wire them into you main board and you should have aux busses, mix buss, etc..

Try Geoff Tanner, he's a Neve guru. Also Mark from Brent Averill is very nice and patient. Don't forget that all Neves are not created equal. Those broadcast boards are filled with IC chips and not transformers. The micpres are usually one gain stage like the 1272 and not 3 like the 10 series.
