Thread Starter | MC77/1176 vs TG1 Hello, have you compared these two comps? Above all for voice (mainly in the rock/metal field) Thanks |

| I use them daily side by side. The TG1 give a more chesty/big sound to the vocal than an 1176. The 1176 is more flexable and has a more "forward" sound as well as being a very familiar sound. I've never really a/b'd them per se, and ususally go 1176-->La2a for vox simply because I have the TG1 (and now a zener) on other duties more often than not. I find the Tg1/Zener has much more impact on drums and acoustic guitars than an 1176 would so it doesn't get the chance to see vox duties as much as it should. |

| The MC-77 is a world fuller and richer sounding than the UA 1176 and in many ways is just an amazing compliment to the TG-1. I usually use the MC-77 on bass, something I have found the TG-1 is not one of the best tools for that application... however, I have found that when I record vocals through the MC-77 then use the TG-1 on those same vocals when mixing the audio has an amazing ability to just "sit" in a mix like nobody's business. I usually prefer the TG-1 to most everything in my arsenal when it comes to guitars... and at times it is my weapon of choice for parallel drum buss duties [though I have to say it's been getting less and less use in that application as the Dramastic Audio "Obsidian" has been getting the call for that role more and more often]. In my never humble opinion, both are exceptionally excellent tools that compliment each other in a beautiful manner... but are absolutely NOT interchangable. Hope that sheds some light. Peace.

| I have not used them side by side but I would suspect that (apart from the 1176´s 4-button-mode) the TG-1 will be a lot more audible when doing the same gain reduction compared to the 1176. I would also say the 1176 slightly attenuates the bottom end - thus bringing especially vocals and guitars forward in the mix - the TG will have more bottom end for sure. |

| This should not be true if the 1176 or clone is working up to spec. Older units that need recapping will be shy on the low end.
